Hey Mr. Cynic. Why is the line I'm poor not retarded amusing? Why wouldn't it be? Heaven forbid someone had a different sense of humor than you. It's implying that only a mentally deficient person would chose a Microsoft-embedded laptop.Yes, pretty much. All I'm left is with the message, "Even a homeless man scoffs at PCs... though he's still the kind of person to end up choosing one." Why is the line "I'm poor, not retarded" viewed as amusing? I'm brown-hair, not blue-eyed. It's not funny because there's no prejudice to play on which assumes that brown-haired people are blue-eyed.
While I'm here, why is the homeless person, usually depicted with mannerisms that reflect mental illness, such a stooge of US comedy? British humour tends to celebrate the qualities of the underdog; American media tends to view "the poor" either with contempt or as a target for patronising charity.
How the hell would brown-hair, not blue-eyed be amusing? Thank GOD dry people like you don't write comedies, the industry would go to hell. Oh boo hoo, it poked a bit of fun at the mentally retarded. Lighten up.
It was funny, even if not necessarily to you (GASP!).
The point is, price aside (not all of us are poor bargain hunters) we want the better, sturdier, more reliable and convenient machine. Is that that poor 16" PC with horrid res and encased in flimsy plastic that machine? Yes, if you're a bargain hunter, HELL NO if you're someone willing to pay a bit more for a more reliable and plain out better machine.
Great ad, I laughed really hard. These M$ ads are such crap, let's compliment the other company and then go off and buy the other product only because you're on a budget.
"Microsoft, because you can't afford anything better."
