I think Tim said this week or the past that they are more concerned in the display than the screen size. I like the iPhone's size because it is light and the screen size is just right, not too big nor too small.

i wouldn't mind if the iphone bumped the resolution to 1280x720. keeping the same ppi, the screen size would increase to a manageable but not too big 4.5".

My cousin bought the Galaxy 4S yesterday. I took a look at it and placed it in my pocket. Oddly enough even at 5" the 4S fit better in my pocket than my iPhone 5. While the 4S is wider and taller, it's flatter and not as bulky. My iPhone does not feel comfortable in my pocket at all and often times moves sideways which is very uncomfortable.

Honestly, I don't think it's asking too much to just increase the width of the i5 by .5 inches. That's is not much but it makes a whole world of difference. The taller i5 is not comfortable in the hand and at least 5-6 people I know all say this (including me).

S4 is not flatter they both are .3" but the 5 tends to get sideways in pocket.

Having just purchased the iPhone 5 and having had "big" Android phones like the Nexus 4, I can say that personally I am not interested at all in the iPhone being made any bigger/wider. As it is it's bigger than the old form factor while still being usable one-handed, and that's perfect for me. God I hated how big the Android phones were getting.

Some never/seldom use their iPhone as a phone, and want a bigger screen so as to use it for movies/games/YouTube stuff, thus want as wide as possible instead of just getting the iPad Mini, which would solve there cravings. This is the main reason for wanting a wider screen. Many others want the screen size to remain the same and use it as a phone/business/some texting/camera/GPS and some email. Not going to make anyone happy unless Apple manufactures two sizes or can accomplish increasing the width slightly to 4.3 in the same exact form factor which is doable.

Therefore we get many threads from many of the same people complaining about the size or whether Apple will have two sizes someday instead of just leaving and buying the competitors wider phone. It will never end.

As soon as Apple increased the size to 4.3 later, more complaints will come in, wanting even wider iPhones, and this to will be posted on these forums, and here we go again. It would be nice to see a break down of the age group of those that really want the wider iphones. Bet most are under 30 yrs of age.

I think Apple will eventually make a larger screen iPhone along with the current 4" screen iPhone. However, I don't think they will go 4.5"+ with the larger device. As someone who moved from 4.8" (S3) to 5.5" (Note 2), I would definitely move back down to 4.5" if Apple made one.

4inch screen fits perfectly in my hand. If they go bigger, I would be very disappointed. At work, everyone uses android, but once I got the iPhone 5, everyone keeps saying how perfectly designed it feels to use one handed.

This is about choices, why would u be disappointed if apple gave us one more choice in size.

Most people just assume "that does not fit in my pocket" since that is what the groupthink on forums is saying. I maintain that the s$ and other like-sized phones will fit in most men's pockets. For women, that's a different story, but here is the kicker, even the 3.5" phones don't fit well. How many ladies do you see with iPhones hanging out of their pockets? Their pockets are hardly deep enough to fit a rubber eraser, let alone their hands or a phone! I think a flip phone, on its side would just about fit into my wife's pocket. But they vast majority of ladies I see carry a purse, and keep nothing in their pockets anyway.

Apple have already said they don't intend on going any bigger then 4" claiming sacrifices in screen quality have to be made to go any bigger lol. The HTC One has a bigger screen and the quality is better then the iP5 screen. Apple are just being ignorant as usual and it will come at their own demise eventually.

And all this coming from a company that uses pathetic LG Panels in their iMac lineup.

Hi all, been an Apple iPhone user since the 3G days and most recently the iPhone 5. Well my wifes 4 has been acting up, phone cutting off in the middle of conversations and such, so it was time to upgrade. Also, I dropped my iPad mini and shattered the screen. I can't find anyplace locally that will replace the screen and I don't want to shell out $219 to get the Mini replaced as of yet.

Now don't get me wrong, because I love iPhone, but my eyes are getting pretty bad and I can't see the screen without my glasses, plus my Mini is toast, so I gave my wife my i5 and...gulp...I jumped to the Galaxy Note 2. I absolutely love the screen size and now when I look back at my wifes 5, the screen is so tiny! I do love the simplicity of iPhone and the iOS, and there is a pretty steep learning curve going from iOS to Android, but it is quite fun trying (well frustrating at times) to figure things out. So far, i'm keeping the Note 2. If iPhone went to a bigger screen, i'd probably be back in a heart beat.

Because I would lose the affirmation that whatever I have is the "best". If there was a choice, there would be "the other" and the nagging tick that "the other" could be "the better"... and I just cant handle that.

/sarcasm

the problem comes if apple chooses to replace a too-small-for-some 4 inch screen with a too-big-for-others 5 inch screen instead of options for both 4 and 5 inch displays. the galaxy s4, for example, doesn't come in two sizes to appeal to different people.

What I don't understand is why people who like the current size are so against a larger size. It's not like you have to buy the larger screen option... What is wrong with options? If there were only the 13" MacBook would that be okay?

Come on folks. There is nothing wrong with options.

I'm sure the 4" will be around for a long time. Apple's larger option will be between 4.3-4.5". They should have tested the larger size out with a larger iPod touch.

larger screen

Last night I had a chance to play with a Galaxy 4. I loved the screen but not the OS. The Five inch screen showed so much more text, pictures, movies, etc. I think five inch is the perfect size. If Apple does this, then I will continue to buy an iPhone. If not, I will sacrifice the Apple OS for the Galaxy or HTC ONe.

Just remember like 17 inch laptops. There comes a point when it becomes too big.

People get tired of lugging around 17 inch laptops when they were the "cool" laptops back in 2002-2005. Heck Apple even discontinued the 17 inch Mac book pro a couple of years ago.

A 5.5 inch Galaxy note (I had one) was really too big. I am in the operating room with scrubs. Some scrub shirt pockets do not fit the Galaxy Note 2. It's difficult to put in jeans. For shorts and kakkis its ok.

But there will come a point when a cell phones size is too large.

Can apple make a larger display without changing the physical body very much? Absolutely. Will they? Probably. But apple has a 3-4 year plan. They are going to milk the 4
Inch design for the at least 2 years. Maybe come out with a 4.3-4.5 inch display in 2014 but still carry the 4 inch display while phasing the 3.5 inch display out.

It took apple 3 years to change the resolution of 320x480. Took them 2 years to change resolution from 640x960 to 1136 x640.

So we are looking at middle 2014 at the earliest for a larger display iPhone

Real quick....you have a phone in an operating room?! Lol

Never mind the noise from a ring/vibrate that's nearly the dirtiest thing in the hospital that's not in with the sharps lol.

The iPhone has a LOT of wasted space top and bottom and the phone's too skinny for it's height. They could widen (only) the thing out so that the phone hits 4.3" and keep the same screen height. Then shorten up the dead space top and bottom. Round the case out a bit to get rid of all those hard corners and that would be the perfect phone to me.

Everyone has cell phone in operating room. The days of "no cell phone" use because of interference with medical equipment are long over. Like airplanes and cell phone use.

Anyways if it gets dirty. I just wipe if off with wipes available.

The Note 2 is a really tight fit in scrub top pocket. It depends on the manufacturer of the scrubs.
