keep in mind that we are all speculating about the possible lower price point on possible macbooks in october. we don't know for sure if there will be any or if they will be cheaper.

just keep it and enjoy it, or if you are really discontent with it return it. pretty simple decision

Why do you think BB has restocking fee? To prevent these kinda cons. Everyone was just doing such things and they came up with protection for themselves. 180/14= +/- $13 a day. $1k is a lot of money? So why you wasted it?

I think the best is to keep and not return. First of all there will be something new after a year or even less and who cares? Thing is working good and that is important. I actually think opposite- to buy new laptop, but older generation after I see what a new generation brings. Right now you can save $300-900 for older macbook pro.
What do I expect from new generation?
new case- not important, unless better access to HD (MBP)
more memory (you can upgrade yourself cheaper)
bigger hard drive (you can upgrade yourself, also cheaper)
the same OS (good)

I think you can reasonably expect macbook to be cheaper up to $200 and mbp- $300. Don't expect anything more.

Keep it a year, keep it in good nick, and then slap it on eBay and get the new one. Your not going to lose that much, especially as you would have lost $180anyway.

Mark.

You can return it for any reason that you wish regardless of what others here tell you is wrong or right. Of all the items that I have ever purchased over several years and had to either return for refund or exchange, only one time did they check the contents to make sure everything was in the box and that was a hard drive. BestBuy sells so many thousands and thousands of things that unless a manager knows simply by opening the box if something has not been returned that was included, they would have no idea otherwise. They don't have time to read the manual to see what was in the box. Yes, I'm just pointing out things included in the box. They may very well ask you for the extras you got if they are included on the receipt.

I would return your laptop and take the $180 as a fee for you being able to use the laptop for two weeks. Wait for the new ones and buy one and be happy with it.

Alright, well My plan is to drop the $180 dollar restocking fee. I wanted input of anyone with experience with restocking fee.

I returned a MBA to the 5th Ave store in NYC about 4 months ago and was asked "Are you OK with the restocking fee?"

I said no, he said OK, we can drop it.

Might have had to do with his understanding for the ergonomic problems I had with the machine (sharp edges cave me carpal tunnel, as they didn't let me rest my hands on the machine while working, which I sometimes admittedly do in odd positions).

Still, it sounded like a script: "Are you OK with it?"

Oh, Best Buy. Neveeer miiiind.....

I think you can reasonably expect macbook to be cheaper up to $200 and mbp- $300. Don't expect anything more.

If you are suggesting the new Macbooks will be $200 cheaper and the Pro's $300 cheaper then I want what you are taking. I highly doubt it will be anything close to that. More like $100 if they slash prices at all. I think people are reading way too much into what they meant. We might (key word might--b/c no one knows except some key level Apple employees) know soon.

From best buy:

Restocking fee

A restocking fee of 15% will be charged on opened notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS navigation and in-car video systems unless defective or prohibited by law.

Promotional items
Any product that is returned without a promotional item(s) included with the original transaction (e.g. buy TV, get free DVD player; buy TV, get free gift card; or buy TV, get DVD player half off) will have the value of the promotional item deducted from the refund amount.

Wouldn't surprise me if they deducted $180 + the cost of MobileMe + ~$80 for iWork. Those promotions, particularly the software box if opened, aren't returnable.

What do you guys think? Today is the last day to return my Macbook, Thing is, I didn't get my Macbook with a shining new ipod, printer, and estudent discount. I paid the regular price at BestBuy and got Mobile Me and iWork for free. Which I'm guessing I have to return it also if I return the computer.THey aren't open. 1174 dollars is a lot of money for a computer if they come out with another one in a month.

I'm thinking of taking the loss of 180 dollars and get the new one. Possibly at a cheaper price so It might cover the loss if the Aggressive pricing thing is true.

So in all, What do you guys suggest? Also anyone know how to get out of the restocking fee? or any work arounds. If i return it as a defective do you think I get another 14 days to think about it and can i easily trick them to believe them it's defective and if so how?

Guess what? The new Macbook is ALREADY outdated, as Apple is already working on the new model or revision!

Your current NEW MacBook will work just fine when and if the new model comes out. If you want to return your MacBook than do so, that is your decision.

I bought a Macbook + iPod Touch 8 GB + HP all in one printer for ~ $1070
I think its totally worth it ! I too was in a similar dilemma but I know I have made the right decision.:)
