I've used LastPass for a few years but in a browser setting only and honestly more for the automated login features. I am wising up and realizing that a secure password for each site is needed. My question is how do both apps work in a mobile environment? I have the LP app but it appears I have to browse through that app to be able to use the passwords automatically? Is that right? Is 1Password the same?

Also, how do they both work in actual programs vs browsers? Outlook, Skype, etc.?

Dashlane for me. Updated for iOS 8 with fingerprint login and can be installed on as many macs/pc's and iPhones/iPads as I want.

Just tried to give Dashlane a shot but couldn't get past the initial login/setup screen. Getting an error -1102.

I've used Dashlane, LastPass, and 1Password extensively and I stuck with 1Password. The main reason being I'm only running OS X and iOS so being cross platform isn't an issue for me. The other main reason is that IMHO Agilebits seems the most active developer especially when it comes to incorporating new Apple API's and functionality.

1Password, simply because it's not free for iOS so I'm using it. So far, really, really slick.

...I just wish TouchID would actually just work 100% of the time. By that, I mean it works great, it's just EVERY FIRST TIME I log into something in a day I have to enter my Apple ID password "to enable TouchID"... dumb dumb dumb. It's the same damn fingerprint I had yesterday. :(

If It's not working please get in touch with me so I can help get it working. You can contact me via the contact us link in my signature, then please private message me the email address you sent it from so I can quickly locate it in the system :) Happy to help however I can.

I've been with LastPass for years as a PC user. But recently got my first Macbook (and already had an iPad and iPhone) and I've been toying with trying 1Password. Just don't know if there are any features I'd want that would make the switchover worth it. Seems like it would be a hassle.

The next Mac update will have a really nice LastPass import option :) The current version is broken because they changed their export format but we'll have that fixed soon in the next update. Simply plug and play at that point. Completely optional obviously but if you ever want to give it a shot and have questions let me know how I can help, making myself available if you need me.

Our stance has always been that we feel every user should be using a password manager, even if it isn't ours, use the one that fits your needs.

Wow--color me impressed with your very active, very instantaneous support! :p

Do you have a link to a table that compares the two products? Just curious about the differentiation.

Thanks for interacting with us, Kyle! I know you work for Agile Bits, but what's your reasoning for why you would recommend 1PW over Lastpass?

We try :) I'm just happy my bosses let me hang around here.

We don't really like tables that compare things. It's really easy to make them look great in your favor and not be honest about the things you're comparing to. Your question kind of relates to the next one so I'll answer both below :)

Thanks for interacting with us, Kyle! I know you work for Agile Bits, but what's your reasoning for why you would recommend 1PW over Lastpass?

My pleasure! I try to avoid "comparisons" so I'll simply call out a couple of reasons why others have typically suggested us.

The big one is that the data you store in 1Password is your data. It only exists on your device and optionally can be synced to a third party cloud service (Dropbox and iCloud being the primary two). If you're cloud adverse you can sync via local wifi network so that your data never touches the cloud. This will improve in version 5 for Mac as we added a couple of neat features to make this more seamless.

Some people really like not having a monthly (or yearly) payment and our applications aren't on a recurring payment style setup. Buy that version and get that version for life. Small upgrade costs may occur between versions but for some history:

1Password 1 users got 1Password 2 for free
1Password 2 users paid $20 to upgrade to version 3
1Password 3 users paid $25 to get version 4 (there were 6 years between version 3 and 4)
1Password 4 users get 1Password 5 for free.

That's for the Mac (since we're in the Mac forum), but our iOS application is now free with In-App Purchase for Pro features (multiple vaults, tags and folder organizational features, custom fields and sections, and advanced categories). Sync, Safari extension, and TouchID are all free. We'll be adding more to the Pro features in future updates as well.

Biggest one for me is our top notch customer support. Just yesterday I seen that a user had written a blog post about his interaction with colleagues of mine when he had a problem. In this day and age where we see so many people complaining about the support they get from products and service companies it's refreshing to see someone praise the support they got and I'm just happy that it was us :)

I'm a little biased obviously but there are a ton of threads on here over the last several years that you can look at to see what other users said about 1Password and LastPass. The real thing to do is use the one that works best for you. If that's not us, that's fine. We would really rather that everyone use a password manager than not. We hope most choose us, but we know it's not logical to expect it. Our goal is to help improve people's lives by helping keep them secure and making it easy to do. We want the secure thing to be the easy thing.

I'm happy to answer any questions you have, just be aware I really try to avoid comparing us versus them (all other password managers) since it's just not fair of me to talk about the others since I'm simply not as well versed in their products as I am with ours. It would be easy for me to get something wrong and I just don't want to paint that picture.

Not very objective as I've never used LastPass but I love 1Password. I've been using it on my multiple Macs, iPhone & iPad. It has been worth every penny I spent on them. I love the sync (very quick) and on the iPhone 6, use of TouchID is wonderful. I do wish there was a way to use it when logging in to apps but I assume that's an iOS limitation.

LastPass wins for me because I can use my account across my Macs, Windows machines, iPhone/iPad and even my Linux VM's for free (although I am a Premium member for the extra benefits).

Logging into apps is possible if the developer implements it :)

All of the apps in this list:

Will let you tap a "1Password" button on the login screen and it'll open up the 1Password extension and let you choose the login to fill into it :)

You are right. 1Password sync is very fast.

I tried several other password managers before settling on 1Password. The Mac version is a little pricey. But, for the features that it offers, I think it is well worth it. As others have said, Agile Bits is very good about listening to their customers and updating the app on a regular basis.

The other main reason I purchased 1Password was the history of customer support found on the forum. As a potential customer a while back, Kyle took the time to address questions that I had. And he has done so since. In my opinion, that speaks volumes for the company.

How much is it worth it to each one of you, that you can contact the company you purchased a product from, and get a timely reply that isn't some kind of generic response read from cue cards?

When a company does its best to provide a quality product with good customer service, I am going to support them even if it costs a little more than other lower priced products available elsewhere.

Ohhh..thanks, Kyle!! I'm gonna starts asking dev to add 1Password support! haha.

I haven't seen it and list of apps is small for now. I think I only have 2 on this list but I'll try it out right now on Tweetbot.

Not just Kyle on the forums but the Twitter acct is also very good at replying. I agree paying a little extra for what you know to be good customer support is well worth it. Especially when it comes to things like security and your passwords! Like I said, it's been worth every penny I've paid for the Mac & iOS apps.

Yup, start requesting support :) It's super easy to add and most developers have been able to get it in their app in a matter of minutes!

We're adding more to that list every day so it'll continue to grow we hope but definitely request support from your favorite apps.

Thanks for the kind words though, we really appreciate it and I'll be sure to pass that along to our twitter bot ;) Can't feed its ego too much.

It's not a problem with 1Password, though, and ironically as soon as I asked the rep at the Apple store it resolved itself. I swear every time I'd try to download an app the first time in the day I'd have to enter my Apple ID password to verify TouchID. Then, bingo, it starts behaving. :/

...but thank you for the offer nonetheless. Impressive! :)

Ah yes, the mysterious ghost that fixes itself as soon as you complain about it. I use this method when I'm coding. If I'm stuck, I just start complaining loudly and then I find the solution. It's a handy trick that mostly works in my favor ;) Much to the displeasure of others I think lol

Glad to hear it's working now though! If I can ever help in the future please let me know.

1Password

I tried quite a few PM's before settling on 1Password. I was trying to not have to pay the premium price but I'm sure glad I did. In my opinion it's the best PM out there. Really stable and any bugs I notice seem to be addressed quickly.

OneSafe

Seems that I am the only one using OneSafe.

Have been very happy with the integration between iOS and Mac but will look I'm to 1password now!

Thanks all!
