Mind posting an updated screenshot?

i will... but ther is really no yellow tint. i looked very very closely... nothing. if there is any difference, then it is really too less to get another repair.

as i cant tell till now, its really good. but i will surely keep an eye on it.

Okay I went to the Apple Store again. This time I made sure to hit every display in the store. And yeah, they all have some very minor temperature/gamma shift from top to bottom.

The funny thing is, I went to Best Buy later and all the PC all-in-ones have the problem too, but some of them a lot worse! Whether it is gamma shift or temperature shift from top to bottom. So this problem isn't specifically Apple.

The size of the display doesn't matter much, but smaller displays tend to hide the effect better.

So I guess the verdict is that some slight temperature/gamma shift from top to bottom is normal on displays and should be expected.

Can't believe this is still happening... I am due for an upgrade in the next 2-3 months, and I'm scared of the iMac screen lottery... My 2010 iMac had this issue and took 2 swaps to get it right. Really don't want to go through the same thing again :(

I guess I'm a luck one.

This is so odd! 3/3 iMacs had this problem? I say this because I bought only 1 and it was perfect, haven't had any problems with it at all. No bleed, no tints, nothing. Perfect display, and not only that, I love the rest of the hardware and such as well.

Everything about mine was what I was hoping for and even more.

To the OP, if you'd be interested in buying a MacBook Pro or such as an alternative I would defianetly go for it. Probably would have better luck there than just replacing and replacing iMacs over and over again.

Best of luck :D :apple:

My kid outgrew his 21.5" imac 3.06ghz core 2 duo so I put it in the closet because it had screen problems. Black blotches everywhere on the screen. I was bored the other day so I figured I would take a look at fixing it. I disassembled the imac to the last screw. It had tons of dust in it. I opened up the lcd polarizer and cleaned dust out of it and that took care of the blotches. I bought a 3.33ghz chip on ebay for $40 and dropped that in for a speed boost. Now I am trying to use it but the screen is COMPLETELY yellow at the bottom half of the screen and the power supply makes buzzing noises if the brightness is over 50%. Want to tell me how you clean the dust out of the new imacs? This dust is over the coarse of 4yrs in a clean environment.

I will NEVER buy another iMac as long as I live.

last year had a 21.5" imac and from november 2013 i have a 27" no issue with both of them

Right I am now at cross roads and I expect Apple to call at some point today. I have had 5 replacements and they have all had a yellow tint apart from the first one which I still have. Only reason why I requested a replacement was due to the first one having chips in the aluminium around the screen. All the ones which have followed have had a yellow tint. These have all came from Ireland and my first one which was delivered in December was from Asian supply chain.

Does anyone have any experience how easy it is to swap out the screens out on the 2013 model? As I still have the two machines I will ask Apple if they can arrange this at a store or a local service centre.

Uggh, I've put off replacing my 24" iMac as long as I can and then I see this thread. I really wish Apple would get their eye back on the ball and focus on making great products rather than spending so much time buffing their image in the media. It's the price you pay for going mainstream I guess.

I finally gave up on the late 2013 iMac after 5 machines and a replacement screen.

I'm sure there are good screens out there - but I just could not live with the difference in colour between top and bottom.

Now waiting to buy a 4k Apple display + nMP Haswell.

I bought a maxed-out 27" back in mid-March. Absolutely perfect screen, but it had a faulty bearing in the fan (loud clicking sound) and tilting the screen was an issue as metal hit metal (not normal, I checked). I called Apple and sent it back for a replacement.

Big mistake.

The replacement had the horrible yellow screen that I've now read about with severe backlighting issues. The third and fourth were similarly bad. I'm now waiting on the fifth. After reading this thread, I am not hopeful that the results will be any different.

I stare at pixels and judge colors all day, so maybe I'm more picky than most. I just expected that a new $4300 computer from Apple shouldn't have to be taken in for repairs/replacements right out of the box.

Count me as another disappointed customer.

I have looked at 100's of iMacs, and bought two - no yellow tint in any of them - at least that I can see.

My 27 inch is awesome 1 year old this week.

Wish I would of found this thread earlier, my refurbished iMac which I purchased about a month ago also suffers from yellowish tinge. Bad thing :( about it is that I already opened her up and replaced the 1tb hdd with a ssd :). I used ifixit's adhesive to put her back together and it looks factory. Wondering if I do the same and put the original HDD, will apple retail store know that it has been previously tampered with????

How bad is the yellowing? Do you notice it only on gray colors, or do you see it on white and other colors as well? On mine I only see it very subtly on grays and if I look very closely.

Anyway, to reassure others thinking their iMac displays are defective—some slight amount of color, temperature or brightness difference between top and bottom is normal for LCD displays. Remember, I said slight. If yours is severe and very noticeable then something is definitely wrong.

I dare anyone to find a LCD that has the exact same gray color at the very top all the way to the very bottom. At least all the LCD displays I've owned in my lifetime and every one I looked at in Best Buy and Apple Store didn't. Most non-Apple displays are actually worse in this regard.

Looks like this is stil lhappening. I picked up a 274inch Late 2013 Model in April 2014. 1 dead pixel, not too worried, then in the last few weeks i have a horrible yellow band running vertically down the centre of the screen.

Doesnt help my photo editing!!!

Looks like im off to the apple store

Hi guys, this is my first post on MacRumors, although I have been following the discussions for quite some time now.

I hope this is the right place to post as my question is related to the yellow tinted screen.

Two weeks ago I decided that I just can't wait anymore and bought an Apple Thunderbolt display. After I got it I decided to return it and get a 27" iMac instead as the price difference was quite small and the new iMacs have better glossines. When I received the iMac I noticed that the white color looked yellowish compared to the Thunderbolt display and my 2012 Macbook pro. I compared then to the Iphone 5 and the iPad Air and noticed the same results.
I took a photo with the phone of all the other screens with brightness set to high. Can you guys confirm that there is something wrong with it or is it all just in my head? It might be that the macbook's color is a bit too cold and because I got used to it I just feel that the iMac looks yellowish.
I went to the Apple store with it for a second opinion but in those lights neither I nor the guy from the genius bar could tell a difference.

Cheers !!!

That looks like a good screen to me. Keep it. Enjoy it.

My Late 2009 iMac 27" screen had a slight yellowish tinge in some parts but it was only noticeable on a completely grey screen. The main problem I've had to live with has been grey blotches in the top corners, which have slowly encroached towards the middle of the screen over the years. I assume these are finger prints from the factory, maybe they had the wrong white gloves on or it was a sweaty day? They are probably there for good unless someone knows how to dismantle the panel itself to clean it, unfortunately I don't have a dust-free 'clean room' to do it in.

Right now I'm considering purchasing a 2013 iMac 27", hoped they would have sorted out the problems by now but apparently not, maybe they won't for many years to come (until OLED comes to Apple?), if the worst I get is a slight yellow tinge to the entire screen then I'll be content.

PS Sorry for digging up an old thread.
