Received my second late 27" today and guess what I have the same yellow issue most people have here.

I am currently typing on the Imac which is due to be collected tomorrow and I have to say this screen is amazing. Replacement 2 not so its horrible.

1) No screen issues (very bright and white is white)
problem chipped aluminium along the bottom was like this out of the box hence the return.

2) Yellow tint and wifi keeps disconnecting.

I am 100% sure my first mac is using a samsung and second yellow is an LG. I had a few macbook air's over the years which look similar. Contacted Apple regarding my options and they having system maintenance at the moment, will call back in a few hours to discuss my options.

I haven't gotten my Imac yet but is it possible the display needs some time to bond together ?

I had a Iphone with yellow screen and after about a month of use the screen was fine.

I've been wondering the same thing (and my iMac hasn't arrived yet either), but seeing how I've seen these yellow issues with iMacs on display at the Apple Store, it doesn't bode well. I mean, I would think those have got a lot of time to "bond"...

Therefore, I don't believe this is a design limitation but rather bad panels altogether. How bad? Well, not as bad as some but hardly as good as they used to be. Is this an Apple QC problem? Well, they don't make their own panels so from a manufacturing point of view, I guess not. But they should be working with their supplier to either have this corrected in the future or to find another supplier.

There really aren't many suppliers out there in terms of IPS. Practically all of them originate from LG. As for older ones, it would be interesting to look at the older ones. Those were still glossy and much more reflective. I'm curious whether it masked the issue to some degree. The desire for thinness also probably imposed some design limitations.

Actually, no, I'm a designer so I'm probably more sensitive than most to this kind of thing. I can see it whenever the screen is mostly white, especially on a spreadsheet where you can visually isolate sections and see that cells are different colours. I also notice it when scrolling on a sectioned web page - like http://www.apple.com/imac/ If you follow a horizontal section as it goes up the screen it changes colour.

I do get that. I'm sensitive too. The eizo is good. I liked the older ones better. My notebook display is far from perfect.

I have a macbook pro retina display and I love it. I went to the apple store and looked at a Imac before making this BIG purchase on this new maxed out Imac. I didn't notice any less quality in the display over my 15" retina.

I think there might be some bad display's out there but I think some people are also perfectionist. Don't get me wrong paying the amount we pay for these apple products we deserve the best but I think some of the people are examining these screens way too much.

Brand new iPhones sometimes are yellow due to the adhesive bonding the screen not having enough time to dry once it's been manuafactured and shipped.

Does anyone have a screen that "got better" over time?

Even if it doesn't get better with time, it does at least point to a cause. Screen bonding is a new feature of this generation of iMac. Given the timing, this appears to have more to do with that process than the panels themselves.

Ordered a refurbished 27 imac on Jan 1st, screen temperature is acceptable. But suffer with backlight bleeding lower left corner, pretty obvious when watching movies.

The thing is instead of 775m apple send me a 780m which makes it surprisingly good deal. Dont know what to do, stick with current one and go through repair or order a new set, very low possibility with 780m again though.
:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

I got my Imac 27" Haswell today and I am not seeing any yellowing or strange screen issues.

I must of gotten a good one. Only thing that bugs me is the fan runs non stop but it's not very loud

I should not have read this thread. I'm expecting delivery of a new 27" iMac BTO any day now (see sig. below; guess I jumped the gun just a bit) and I'm very nervous about receiving a defective screen.

I'll give Apple one chance. If it's a crap screen, I'm not sure what I'll do.

I had originally ordered a 6-core nMP, but cancelled since I needed to spend some of that money on something else that came up. The iMac is $2000 cheaper than the nMP I had configured (slower, obviously, but good enough). I'll either go with a base 4-core nMP or I'll find a loaded, used 2010-2012 oMP.

I might even just get a 2.6GHz i7 mini to tide me over and otherwise sit this round out. I just need a fast Mac with half decent graphics (not a gamer nor a Final Cut Pro user, though I do use an app called Osirix for medical imaging which can make good use of a moderate GPU).

I wouldn't stress over the screen to much. I am a picky person I use a retina screen and went to the Imac screen with NO ISSUES.

I think a lot of people just stare at the screen till they find something wrong. No screen will be perfect but for every day use I doubt you will see the imperfections if you never looked for it in the first place

It's true no panel will be perfect, but the issue is definitely there. I just received my second unit and the problem is still there. It's not as bad as the one I got first time around, where the bottom right corner was especially noticeable. I'll give this a shot for couple days and see how much it bothers me. Seeing how Apple choose their display only from A+ grades off of LG (and those rejected panels end up being cheap small brand Korean monitors), this is rather disappointing. With the problems that seems to exist in almost every iMac, I bet those cheap Korean monitors (with essentially same LG panel) would probably offer much much better bang for the bucks at this point. Too bad there isn't any other desktop offering that is powerful than Mac Mini and not as overpowered (for most people who'd buy iMac) as Mac Pro.

This is deja vu all over again. When I was buying my current Core 2 Duo iMac back in 2007, the same display problems were being discussed. Here's an example of many you can find online:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1243057?tstart=0

After reading this thread, the same dread that I had to overcome is being revived again as I explore the purchase of a new 27" iMac.

My current iMac has always exhibited some yellowing and unevenness, so I've been using an Eizo display for very critical imaging work.

Fortunately, I'm just a hobbyist, but if my livelihood depended on monitor accuracy and integrity, I would not rely on the iMac's built-in display but instead purchase the Mac Pro with a professional caliber display.

It seems my new late 2013 iMac display is having the same problem. The top is nice and bright, the bottom is dull and yellowish. I never noticed this before on my mid-2010 iMac but unfortunately I've sold it already so I can't check and see for sure.

Since the OP has been through 4 iMacs already I'm betting they all have this problem but that people just don't notice or care. I'm going to visit an Apple Store tomorrow to see if the ones on display show this as well.

May I ask that people who have ordered recently do the test I did and post back to this thread? If they are all like that at least I'd know it's not just me and the OP.

Thanks!

Apple have just replaced my 2012 iMac for a 2013 one because of multiple display issues.

It just arrived and yes, the display is very uneven.

But I would feel like I was taking liberties asking them to replace my replacement. :p

I just received my 2013 iMac a few days ago and I... have a yellow corner. To be more specific, yes the screen is a tad more yellow on the bottom. It's generally pretty subtle except for the bottom right corner. It's much more obvious there than anywhere else... and under certain lighting or colors, it looks like the corner has a little burned streak/mark.

I would say that the overall yellow isn't very obvious and is quite acceptable if it weren't for the corner. Now I'm not sure what to do.

I should add that this is mainly most obvious when the color is light... or if I use a clean light one-color desktop bg, etc. I can't tell there's yellowing anywhere at all when using a busy desktop pic (or most of the default ones that came with the iMac).

I could try to avoid the corner when doing design work?

I've been through two iMacs. I also took a look at around 4 different 27" iMacs in our local Apple Store. Although all of them have subtle yellowing in the 1/3 half (some worse than others), none of them have yellow corners.

I would go for an exchange. Why waste living with potentially something you don't like?

Anyway, I got my second iMac today and the screen actually appears decent. It may have a very slight subtle yellowing towards the bottom (almost undetectable), but comparing it to my first one it's worlds better. It even has no backlight bleed!

So if no further issues arrive with this unit, I'm keeping it! :)

Mine is pretty good too, actually. Maybe some minimal non-uniformity of the screen white tone, but only very minor and in the last two weeks I've not noticed it at all. Same goes for backlight bleed. Minimal but not enough to matter. All in all I'm happy.

i visited the new apple store in berlin today... i checked all imacs and i found 2 imacs that actually HAVE the yellow tint issue in the bottom 1/3... i told that to a genius, and he said "oh really? i`ll check it. our goal is perfection"...

i repeated: "yes, i know... i got my imac this monday and brought him back tuesday for a display replacement caused of a yellow-tint-screen"

- silence.

:D
im so curious to see my replaced screen when i`m back....

Same here, exactly the same. It is the third one already. I'm recalibrating this on to see if it wil make any difference. Else I'll exchange it for a mini and buy a NEC display. Getting tired of this second-rate-hardware...for this price! Oww.. and luminance is of by 20-25% from the left top and right bottom corner.

Wow, I got my 27" i7 this week and the screen is perfect. My son also got one a few months ago and his looks great also. No yellow and bleed.

I definitely think I got one of the much better displays in terms of yellowing. Comparing to others' photographs (especially pscl and richard13), the yellowing on mine is almost non-existent. So I'm thinking although this yellowing issue may be evident in all iMacs, the severity of it is definitely varied between panels.

So... do you have an updated photo?

hey there

i got my imac back... the screen is BETTER but i STILL DO NOTICE a Yellowish tint in the bottom 1/3 (getting more in the lower right corner)

i will test this a few days and see if its worth bringing back for another replacement.

Again: it is STILL THERE. I guess this is common to all imac late 2013
