Paying for apps means screwing with ppl in countries with no iTunes Store?

How else would you get them?

I'm not sure what people expected. Of course things would be managed through iTunes - that's how everything else works now.

I'm not saying it won't be possible to do an Installer-like add-on so you could get around iTunes. But why would Apple care about that when they have iTunes already in place?

I second that.

I tried installing 10.5 on my 733 G4 and had to go back to 10.4 cause it was crazy slow.

Looks like i'm gonna need to use a friends or get the guys at the store to let me do it there.
I think that they're talking about developers, not users.

Pretty ballsy to make this prediction so close to the moment of truth.

Then again it may make sense that apple first made the SDK for MAC OS computers and perhaps windows dev's wont be seeing a final release for some time.

Like how even though its pretty stable safari 3 final edition is mac specific while windows is still in beta.

Actually, only ADC Select and Premier members got Leopard for free. That is, ADC Student and Online members didn't.

Oh. My bad. But I think anyone who ponied up for ADC membership probably bought Leopard by this point.

I mean if you spend $100 on ADC how could you justify not spending $100 on Leopard?

Apple does not deserve a portion of revenue for distribution on iTunes. That's just not a good idea in what could be a very innovative and powerful productivity platform. Do you need Apple's permission to publish a podcast? If anything, software writers should allow Apple to post their wares, and let Apple have any advertising revenue...

I'll bet there's a free way to introduce applications on the platform within a year. Apple should be happy to promote the platform. If they want to charge people - let them build their own software.

toothless gripe!

The free stuff will be free...no apple cut.

And they seem to be heading towards a "you make money, we make money" deal.....same as everything else on itunes that isn't free.

Apple is not in the business of distributing products for other companies for free.....they have a store...and like any store, they make money on stuff being sold in it.

What advertising revenue do you see being generated in the itunes store?

Not rocket science.

You'll find that words like "reserve" don't mean jack in the world of business. Apple isn't a four-year old asking for cookies.

Do you need Apple's permission to publish a podcast?

Podcasts are free to the consumer. This rumor is in reference to commercial apps.

Advertising of what by whom?

Me too. And that has nothing to do with this rumor.

It's developers that will want to charge people. If Apple gives them access to a tremendously popular platform, it makes nothing but sense for Apple to take a cut of sales.

You plan on developing on a g4?

Obviously, x-code 3 doesn't work on it...so why would you expect the SDK to run on it.

Again, it only goes to ADC members. Come on people, it says right there in the first post.

Of course it does, but the applications that come out of it are for strictly only ADC members as well? Say an ADC member makes an iPhone app and wants to test it, he will put it on his iPhone. And since it appears that 1.1.4 offers application support (as evidenced through the app pack), I can see how you would easily be able to load it via some third party software that doesn't need to jailbreak the device.

Actually I have no idea how they will release the firmware necessary to test the SDK...they may release it to everyone or actually give it only to ADC members...

Except you don't have to pay for ADC at least at the lowest level.
But then again they just provide you with lots of dry documentation and tease you about all the cool tutorial video's and conferences they have until you succumb and cough up some cash.

Not really a shock SDK is Mac only. You gotta bank on the halo effect when you've made one.

Yeah i dont get the 10.5 only thing. If developers are developing on 10.5 will the apps be backwards compatible kind of like universal OS (Tiger/Leopard) support?

leopard only? thats terrible news.

I don't think so, we have had just about enough of "PC Only" on many things especially if MS has anything to do with it. We will continue to live in a Windows world unless more stuff is Mac only.

They don't need to be. The apps are being made for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Both devices use a very similar version of Leopard. So in essence the apps are being designed for Leopard. On the iPhone not your computer.;)
