Apple's Beats by Dre brand is launching a new collaboration with graphic artist Verdy and the Tokyo-based Girls Don't Cry project, featuring custom-designed Beats Flex earphones in a distinctive blue and red theme with a detachable heart charm on the cable.

The collaboration includes an ad campaign featuring model Jasmine Daniels, who appears in a Girls Don't Cry-inspired bedroom listening to Koteri's "Something I Need."
"Im really happy to work on the Beats Flex earphones because it's my wife's favorite style," said Verdy. "We've made a friends-and-family version in the past, so I'm really excited to release this special colorway to the public."

Beats Flex originally launched in late 2020 as the lowest-cost option in the Beats family. An evolution of the previous BeatsX model, the Beats Flex connect to your device wirelessly over Bluetooth, but the individual earbuds are connected by a cable that wraps behind the neck.

Inline modules along the cable house the battery, electronics, and physical controls for the earphones. Standard Beats Flex were originally priced at $49.99, but Apple increased the price to $69.99 in late 2021, likely due to supply chain issues that increased the cost of components. Occasional sales have, however, continued to drop pricing to the $50 range from time to time.

The limited-edition Girls Don't Cry Beats Flex will be available for $69.99 (£69.99 / ¥9800) starting Saturday, April 1, via Girlsdontcryshop.com and Dover Street Market locations in the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan. Verdy will also host a special retail pop-up on April 1 at Rise Above Gallery in Osaka, Japan.

I didn't know they still even made these.

I still have mine somewhere before I cut the cord years ago.

I got them in a pinch one time for like 40 bucks - figured it was worth it for a little more than just standard plug ones for 25 bucks or so. just a back up in a bag if my airpods aren’t around.

So you get all the poor sound quality, poor battery and other inconvenience of wireless, but you still get all the inconvenience of having to physically have a wire hanging off your head too? Yeah sign me up
I had the BeatX which was its predecessor. The battery lasted a lot longer (8hr) than AirPods (5hr) and you can hang it like a necklace since there are magnets to attach the buds. It also had the W1 for device switching and easy paring and physical buttons for controls. If it wasn’t for the noise cancellation on the AirPod Pros I would probably still be using my BeatsX. The current Beats Flex actually has 12hr battery life compared to the Airpods Pro’s 6hr.

So you get all the poor sound quality,
It is indeed pretty bad for music, though wireless has nothing to do with that.

For podcasts, it’s fine. I take them on long walks or commutes. Works great.
poor battery
No problem here. Lasts for hours and charges very quickly.
and other inconvenience of wireless,
There’s no cable that attaches to your phone. That’s quite convenient. Instead, it’s just a necklace. Much nicer than wired.

Yes, it’s not quite as cool as AirPods. But it’s also a third of the price. And you do get some of the iOS/macOS integration.

Plus, they’re magnetic. Put the two buds together? Pause. Very nice.

I have two pairs (got them free when i upgraded my Apple Watch) and they are awful. I would not take another pair for free even with this heart charm lol

I specifically sought out wireless earbuds that were connected by a wire. Easier to take them out of your ears and "let them dangle, baby".

The sound quality is ok, but obviously not as good as my airpods pro or AirPods max. I don’t even mind the wire that much. My main issue with them is the fit and comfort. They keep falling out of my ears.

I used the BeatsX with foam tips and they were honestly okay. The sound was nothing to write home about, but not too bad either.

In terms of convenience I've come to like completely wireless buds, but I do occasionally miss the convenience of just taking them out of my ear and letting them dangle without having to put them back in a case. I have a very cheap backup pair of Galaxy Buds+ for workouts, but when/if they break I might pick up another pair of these because when I'm out for a run and the things falls out of my ear, the worst thing that can happen is that it dangles freely until I put it back in.

Not sure where you got all that. But some people prefer having a wire so they can hang it like a semi necklace when you want to give your ears a break for a few minutes, instead having to fish out your case, insert them into the case, and then when you are ready fish out your case again and take them out of the case.

“Girls Don’t Cry” seems like a pretty toxic message to be spreading… it’s okay for *everyone* to cry…

(Although I’ll admit I don’t know anything about why they wrote that, just that it seems to be a strange thing after all these years of working to make it known it’s okay for guys to cry after generations of “Guys Don’t Cry”)

I'm happy for the people this will appeal to, but to me that looks about as good as sticking a marshmallow from Count Chocula on your cable.

There earbuds are not my thing but I liked the ad... gives me some nice chill 70's vibes.. (though I didn't exist back then, my grandma's house had a lot of that influence..)
