How are all these developers sharing this info in public? Doesn't it breach their developer account T&C?

Based on my read of the develop TOS and NDA, absolutely.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple boots some of the people posting these from the developer program.

Right. Because they're not even doing it anonymously. This is right out in the open, including posting code.

You missed this in the last article too. This isn't a developer beta or related to developers, rather Apple for some reason publicly released the firmware for the HomePod last week. It was listed as AudioAccessory 1,1. Anyone can download the firmware and poke around.

Beyond that, why on earth is firmware available to developers for a device that nobody outside of Apple currently has?

You don't see Apple saying, "click here to download the iPhone 8 firmware".

That's the best question - and some internal employees can't believe how the firmware was pushed publicly, especially considering how much info is within it.

I can only assume the person that found these files is an elite hacker. Only then would you have thought to look in a file called audio to discover audio files. Next thing you know there will be a text file with text in it, everyone will lose their minds.

It's not really hacking, if you have the firmware then it's just poking around, for instance, if you have an extension (file), just right click on it and there are folders and files in it, some .plist files contain interesting information.

It's not for developers; it's a general support download. It was probably posted prematurely.

You can tell Apple tried hard to make you not hate the thing, even if it's the thing that takes you out of bed every day...

... most people will hate it because it's too soft to wake them up then...

I like that alarm sound, I'm guessing there will be more than 1 sound for setting an alarm to wake me up in the morning. Really looking forward to December when this HomePod is released!

I wonder if an app to identify all of the nonsensical sounds that Apple products make that invoke nothing related to the action at hand would make money?

Stupid product... can't see the screen unless you are standing over it. What kind of an idiotic design is this?

You won't be interacting directly with the product, nor really need to use the screen for anything. This is meant as a speaker with an assistant - I seldom have to touch or look at my Amazon Echo, it's the same concept. The screen will just display status updates and information pertaining to the current activity, I'd imagine.
[doublepost=1501609181][/doublepost]Wow. We've gotten a lot from this HomePod firmware. It's a wonder Apple didn't keep this more tightly under wraps.

How are you opening the firmware file once you download it to find the audio files?

Can't tell if you are being serious or not. There is no screen to look at. It's a speaker. The top is just fancy indicator light like what Google Home and Amazon Echo. Want to look at something? That is what your Phone/Watch/Tablet is for.
But the Echo does this much better with the light ring visible from any angle.
