I think most people will get over the “loss” of titanium on the iPhone 17 Pro. Personally, I’m okay with Apple going to aluminum because that means the 17 Pro is no longer in danger of reaching the 206g weight of my current phone, the 14 Pro. The 16 Pro is almost 200g, a significant increase from your 15 Pro.
Isn't titanium supposed to be lighter?

I suppose it is like SS > titanium > aluminum (weightwise).

Apple will use some more durable aluminum alloy for pros and give it a fancy name and slogan like “Spacecraft grade level x aluminum, lighter than titanium but as durable blah blah”.

Classic Apple marketing.

Oh well, I thought the brushed titanium on 15 Pro was very good. 16 Pro doesn't have that vibe. 17 Pro will probably be as shiny as 14 Pro was. Or not. We will see.

I don't understand why Apple hasn't come out with something like this

It would be a KILLER accessory to slap onto your phone for "the kids birthday party", etc

(connects magnetically and transfers power and data)

This lineup makes no sense. So we'll have iPhone 17e, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Plus, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max????

Close. The rumors are that Apple is replacing the iPhone 17 Plus with the iPhone 17 Air. Likewise, the iPhone 17e has replaced the iPhone SE. So Apple hasn't actually changed the number of current-gen phones in their lineup; rather, they've simply retargeted a couple of the models.

An avid photographer I used to know once told me that people are always asking him which of his cameras is the best. He said that his response to their query had, over time, morphed to a simple statement: the best camera is whichever one you have with you. Because if there's an opportunity for a great photo right in front of you, you don't fret about the expensive camera sitting in its bag thirty minutes away at home... you pull out whichever camera you have on you, and take the shot before the moment has passed.

So you ask why Apple doesn't produce such an accessory? I answer you very simply: because it will inevitably be forgotten at home. In today's society, most of us are far less likely to forget our cellphone.

You pull your phone out of your pocket... and you take the shot.

They could also make an iPhone 17 mini. I have a 13 mini. It's great. Not everyone wants or needs a massive screen.
An iphone mini sized phone, as thin as an iphone 17 with slim or no camera bump, that flips folded shut would be amazing. You could even put a little square screen on the outside to make ultimare beside clock if opened at 90deg. And allow reading message or time or notifications with out opening it like a pocket watch flip phone. I would buy 10.

This is really neat idea. Ideal for holiday snaps on a weekend away when travelling light.

This may be a way of increasing the battery size (hopefully) or a way for Apple to shrink the digital island by moving components

Exactly! 16 Pro feels like a fake 15 Pro because of that “microblasted” finish. As a 15 Pro owner, I’m glad with that though.

Previously I thought that Apple will introduce polished titanium like they do in Apple Watch series 10. Maybe they’ll introduce an Air with that design.

While vaguely amusing, I'm afraid the old "Which is heavier?" trope isn't actually relevant to this conversation, since the strength-to-weight ratio is actually the key factor under discussion, rather than weight alone. Titanium undeniably has a better strength-to-weight ratio -- meaning you can actually make a structure out of titanium that is both lighter and stronger than would be that same structure if it were made out of aluminum.

I would suggest that Apple switching to aluminum more implies that this benefit of using titanium was not readily apparent to most customers -- and quite frankly, titanium costs literally ten times more than aluminum. So in what seems to be an absence of any compelling justification to continue with titanium, Apple is obviously choosing to reduce their manufacturing cost.

Why keep the cameras in a triangular layout instead of the cameras just straight horizontal across the bar. Then the bar wouldn’t have to go so low
Perspective would change as you zoomed which wouldn't be very good.

Why not make the entire phone as thick as the camera bump and use that extra internal space to pack in more battery?
Great idea a actually. Then add a camera bump on for more battery capacity and have a thicc boi with bump
Meanwhile...this was just unveiled.

Looks a lot like an iPhone 17 Air.

so the iphone 17 air will be less than 5.75mm otherwise apple will have failed
