Only one camera and it's the UltraWide one?

That would seem like a really odd choice for the one and only lens, no?
"Wide" is what the main camera lens used to be called before the ultra-wide lens was added and they eventually stopped calling it that, likely to avoid confusion.

How do we even know that at this point?

It's been years since one has come out -- from anyone

It's been a bit over four years since the 12 Mini and a bit over three for the 13 Mini. While we of course can never know for certain, I think my question to you would be what you think makes it more likely that we'd see a different outcome now?

The smartphone market -- and I'd expect consumer preferences -- hasn't really changed over the last few years in any meaningful way. I don't see a particularly convincing reason that a smaller phone would now do differently in the marketplace for some reason.

Nah, I think they meant the regular 40-50mm aequivalent (which is not "wide"). The ultrawide on my 13 mini is pretty bad, huge distortion when photographing nearby objects and bad quality - essentially unuseable unless you just take a photo for documentation purposes. I doubt they would release something like that as a phones only camera.

Hope they surprise us with a reasonably sized screen. 5.8" needs to make a comeback.
If it’s based on the 14, than I would imagine it will be 6.1 inches. A smaller model would require new tooling and would therefore cost more.

There was talk about it using the XR form factor, which would fit with a notch and single camera. I hope they do, as the XR was much more comfortable in the hand than the 14 in my opinion.

I was thinking about buying the new SE but (strangely enough) my old iPhone SE2020 is still going strong. :)
So are ours, but I want the face i.d. and USB-C cabling. If they also add MagSafe it may be a no-brainer for me.

Would it have killed them to make a smaller version of this also?
It's unclear to me what the dimensions of it will be. If it's significantly larger than my SE (2020) then I may just take a pass.

I keep my phone in my left front pocket. Anything much larger than my current phone would become problematical.

If the reports are accurate it's basically an iPhone 14:

Pretty sure it will have MagSafe.
3D size comparison here:

Apple is expected to debut the next ‌iPhone SE‌ sometime in March or April, and it will continue to be the company's lowest-cost device. It could go up in price slightly, but Apple is said to be aiming to keep it below $500.

Do you have even one source that has told you that “Apple has said” this? Everything I’ve read on this front has been speculation by rumor sites themselves, not a detail that their sources have leaked to them.

I still think they are missing one of the main selling points of the SE up to now. So many people have an SE or a mini despite all the (black monolith you cant use single-handedly) options.
Purely because they want the form factor and touch ID.

« Suggestions that the iPhone SE 4 could get an Action Button or Camera Control button also appear off the mark, based on these mockups »

But we can actually see a action button on this dummy device.
I'm honestly hoping its a touch ID lock button like on the iPad.

Saying that based on poor sales of the iPhone Minis.
And ignoring the success of the first 3 SEs…

I don’t think the current leadership group will make a smaller phone again, but mostly because they don’t seem to understand where they went wrong with the minis.

They simply needed to do one of three things: make it cheaper, make it thicker (bigger battery, flat back), or make it better (pro mini) and they could have had a device more compelling to a wider audience.

And they won't do any of that.

I was about to buy the iPhone 12 mini, but then read about several hardware issues, then I was gonna buy an iPhone 13 mini, even bought a case before purchasing the phone, however, because of the still desired touch ID I stuck with my iPhone SE 2020.

I had considered an iPhone 14 mini after Apple figured out any of its hardware issues, but they canceled that version to my dismay.

Apple forgets that sometimes it takes 2 to 3 years for their new hardware designs to take hold. If they cancel it after two years, they hardly have a concept of what it could be. Remember the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and then the 3G S, it was a 3G S before people started to adopt it, and by the iPhone 4 many people were buying and upgrading to the iPhone, but the New design had issues for people without a bumper.
