Please define "big risk". Will ordering a few hours later translate to getting the phone by day 5 or am I looking at day 25 or worse? I've been waiting for months and can stand another week or two but probably no more.

I remember iPad orders after the first hour of ordering online didnt show up until 3 weeks later. I would be ready right away at 3 AM.

malls in my area are kinda weak I usually stroll in on launch day and buy mine with no problems maybe a small line.

Dont try that in LA.

I guess the rule of thumb is, pre-order ASAP online if you are in a metropolitan area. Just lookout for the news/rumors when the store is supposed to go down for pre orders and be ready.

If you live in Milwakee or something, then you can reserve for in store pickup.

Simple. Pre-order online, get it shipped to your house.

All the while, get out there a day in advance and be the first one in line. Sell your spot in line minutes before store opens, recoup cost of the one you pre-ordered.

:D

3a.m.? For a phone? The only way i'm staying up until 3 is if Olivia Wilde delivers it, sets it up, makes me breakfast and laughs at my jokes while bonding with my wife. Otherwise I can wait until 7 and have a phone a month or so after the earliest adopters.

Why not? I did just that when I got my 3GS and the iPad 1 on each of their launch days....I strolled into the Century City store in the afternoon, and walked out within 10 minutes with my new iPhone/iPad.

I'm sure it was just luck though.:D

Oh yeah??

Try that at the grove... Lol

And if you live in a metropolitan area with one tiny Apple store...don't bother (Indianapolis). The line goes out the door of the mall hours before the store even opens. I went to try to buy an iPad there a little over a month ago and they still had the cattle corrals out for people in line.
