I think the real problem Apple has with a widget like Launcher is that it potentially makes third-party services just as convenient as their own, negating one of their advantages.

"There's an app, Launcher, that has a great NC widget that everybody likes. We have to remove it."

And Apple wonder why people jailbreak the iPhone.

I was one of the fortunate ones to of purchased the pro version of the Launcher app and agree with the many that say it's one of the best apps that improves the operation of the iPhone.

I was going to upgrade to the iPhone 6 but Apple are slowly pushing me away with their can and can't do attitude. I'm going to stick with my trusty 5 and jailbreak the **** out of it.

I'd rather give real developers the credit (and my money) for developing useful apps.

I'm a happy man !!! i have it installed after I found this post and bought the pro version .... but sad that it will not be support for future update ..:(

You know, I learned something today. When you see an interesting app, buy it immediately. Don't wait. Don't hesitate. Do it now. Yes, right now. It might be gone before you even notice.

Prediction:

In iOS 9, the Control Center app shortcuts will become customisable.

They're probably nipping Launcher in the bud because it will confuse people when the same functionality comes to Control Center.

The same has just happened with share sheet options: apps can add them, you can rearrange them etc. Would totally make sense for apple to let you choose your own in Control Center.

And, TBH, whilst useful, I find all those app icons in Notification Center conceptually and visually gross! :D

Each to their own.

I however like adding a bit of character to my once boring and before "Launcher" a mostly redundant notification home screen.

Oh that sucks!! Glad I purchased the pro version...it's a really really useful app. Could the experts here help me with couple of things though?
1. When IOS 8.0.3 (or any future IOS update) comes up, is there a possibility that 'launcher' could stop working?
2. As I had stated, I have the pro version installed in my 5s. But when I decide to upgrade to iPhone 6/6+, would I be able to have 'launcher' in my new iPhone? If there is no direct way of doing this, could anyone elaborate on 'copying the .ipa file from iTunes' that someone had posted earlier and whether that's a way of achieving this?

This is 10 times worse than apple not including a feature. This is taking away a feature that users like, for no apparent reason. Not to mention those of us who paid for the app will see no future improvements and could lose it in a future update.

What app developer guidelines was this in violation of?

The guidelines Apple just makes up on the fly, as always.

I have a similar app that I created that though it's still in the App Store, apple have been unwilling to let me update it. It was a 24 hour project but I've been wanting to expand the functionality but yeah it's pretty annoying - it's called Quickiee if anyone is interested, it's not as flushed out as Launcher was to be quite honest .

This is awesome, the app Quickiee. As it lets me do the function of having a social widget, to post quickly to twitter and facebook etc. Is there a way to make the facebook and twitter icons actually colorful? Or change the icons themselves?

How did you install it after? I'd like to get my hands on it.

The hilarious thing is that I'm sure URL Schemes have everything to do with how widgets work. Evernote didn't have them for the longest time and now all of the sudden they do.

I think the real issue is that they started to see developers try and cash in it and saw a bunch of Launcher copycats in the pool of apps needed to be reviewed. They didn't want this to turn into Flappy Bird cloning, especially since it's much easier to do.

Launcher is a great app. Shame I didn't buy the pro version as many others have noted. I downloaded Quickiee that was mentioned above. I also sent an email to Tim the tool Cook.

I can add the functionality, but Apple keeps rejecting updates for it >_>
