Can you try Dota 2? Thank you.

I ran DOTA2.. I've never played it before so I was just running around doing the tutorial, killing little goblins, but still.. I put the FPS up in the corner from the console and the game was set to these settings:

J8zTlH8.jpg

on 2880x1800 (native), it was getting ~30-40 FPS.
on 1920x1200, it was getting ~60-70 FPS.

Both felt very playable. Neither resolution was much different from the other in looks.

edit: There wasn't much going on at any given time, just like 5-6 monsters on screen, but that being said I don't think anymore monsters would add much strain on the GPU in this game. Also, the fans/temps were about the same as they were for the screenshot I took after playing League for 10 mins. (played for around the same on DOTA2)

Thanks for this thread, mthos.

This is some useful stuff--and I should add, very respectable performance considering you're running these in OS X.

Counter-strike: Global Offense is a steam game and would love to see it. It's not free though so I understand if it's not an option.

If it is..the console command (by hitting ` ) for FPS is cl_netgraph 1 or cl_netgraph 3...I can't recall off the top of my head.

Thanks

If an app requests the high performance GPU, gfxcardstatus cant do anything about it. Someone with a low end 15" will need to do the benchmarks for the iris pro.

Yes, please! Thanks! I'm looking for both the Iris and 750m.

Yes, please

here you all go

i did dota 2 on my iris only here

I can re-run the tests when I get home around 1pm today.. I didn't spend much time in DOTA2 as I've never played it before. It seems I always get better FPS after first run in all the games I tested? Weird.

I did some testing with my new Haswell Retina Macbook Pro 15" - 2.3GHz, 16GB, 512GB, 750M GT.

These tests were done with the Dedicated Geforce GT 750M as gfxCardStatus wouldn't let me just turn on Integrated. Going to figure this out.

I'm not sure if anyone really cares about these or not, figure I would do them anyways. If someone can help me figure out how to test with just the integrated graphics on I would do so.

Also if you have another game, program or video settings in League/D3 you want tested let me know.

Sorry about the pictures they might be on the large side..

Both games FPS were taken during action in the game..
I ran into a pile of mobs in Diablo 3 with my monk and went crazy, tornados/lightning and explosions everywhere. When you pause D3 (goto the menu), the FPS stays within 1FPS of what it was before you paused.
League I made sure multiple opponents or friends on screen attacking + lots of minions if possible.

EDIT: Updated D3 benchmarks for first two, not sure why they were so low first time.

VSYNC? Gaming is impossible without VSYNC and 45+ FPS in D3

i don't know why you mean gaming is impossible with vsync, but yes high framerates are always better such as 45+ in D3

the general rule is have vsync off unless you see tearing otherwise you are limiting yourself straight down to 30fps when it drops to 59fps

Gaming on the 15 Retina tears without VSYNC, so it's pretty much unplayable without it.

Uh... haven't seen this happen on my D3 copy. There is no tearing.

The tearing is what happens with the Retina display, and yes, anything without VSYNC tears the display.

It doesn't seem to bother everyone though.

Oddly enough back in my pc gaming days i never used vsync, but in diablo 3 on my rMBP I always keep it on, very distracting tearing. This is on the retina display or on my external 27".

Tearing is a factor depending on the LCD, and these IPS displays, while very strong in color and viewing angles, aren't the fastest around for gaming.

Enable Triple Buffering and the VSYNC performance penalty is largely reduced, but yes, VSYNC is a must.

Tried to play D3 at native res. for about 15 minutes, had no tearing appear -_- Much less at "unplayable" rates...

And never had it on the Mac Pro's 30" either. It happened every now and then with some games, but never had it happen with D3.

Native res probably is under 30 FPS for D3. That's completely unplayable for me, maybe not for you.

Some people don't really see the tearing or are bothered by it.
