name of images on apple website

When checking out the 'typo' I tried saving some of the promo images to see if apple gives them a name with any meaning.

If you look at a sample of the images, most have dates associated with them, especially new product release images. However, for the MBP image, there are 2 different names for the same image depending on what page it is on:

promo_macbookpro_20080306.jpg (front page)
macbookpro_22ghz_20080506.jpg (hot news page)

I believe the new MBP's were released around March 6, right? So the front page image makes sense. BUT, why would they name the other image as May 6, 2008? Also, what does the 22ghz mean? I am thinking 2.2ghz, but mbp's havent had that for a while now... (13" model? ;))

Just a guess, but maybe they had a MBP announcement planned for May 6? Perhaps the rumor of another MBP soon is true?

I think it might be a early leak because if you see it says the new MacBook. The current mb has been out for a couple months and I doubt any one would call it new. Just a thought:apple:

Really

That is not the new line nor a typo. The current Macbook pro has a 2.6GHz processor option- if you go to buy now for the current 2.5G macbook pro's - it will allow you to upgrade to the 2.6GHz prcoessor before you check out.

Not going to happen...

The next MB will have 25W CPUs at speeds of 2.26 and 2.4Ghz. MBPs will probably have 35W CPUs at 2.53Ghz and 2.8GHz CPUs.

There isn't even a 2.6GHz penryn in the Montevina refresh (2.13, 2.26, 2.4, 2.53, 2.8).

Yep, current Macbook PRO has that as an option. The title of this thread is "Leak or Typo: 2.6GHz MacBooks?"

keep in mind though that apple seems to have a very good relationship with intel and they receive processors early or even never released.

Don't forget the 2.53 GHz Penryn CPU that runs at 25W. If Apple would release a 13" MacBook Pro, I think the P9500 would be great for it.

Oops.

Sometimes, I wonder about our advances in technology, specifically when we aren't even sure how far we've come. :)

Wow, I hope this happens. Probably a goof though. Maybe a small dedicated GPU for the Blackbook? a la 12" powerbook? Probably not though, but I can dream! :D

It could be either.

It would be odd for Apple to bump the high-end MacBook to the same proc speed as the high-end MacBook Pro, but not unheard of. I recall a previous update where the consumer model was updated first, then about a month later, the pro model.

At this point, Intel's upcoming "Montevina" platform is due in early June, the week before WWDC. So an update of the MacBook Pro to Montevina would make perfect sense. (Essentially the same specs as the just-updated iMac; but statements from Intel claim that the iMac is using 'overclocked' current-gen "Santa Rosa" parts.) The nice thing about Montevina is that it will put mobile chipsets on parity with desktop. Right now, the MacBook Pro is using a 965 chipset, the standard desktop chipset is now two generations newer. Montevina will bring about the xM45 chipset at the same time as the release of the desktop x45 chipset.

Intel is expected to release a mobile Core 2 Quad Extreme chip in September, at only 10W more than the high-end mobile Core 2 Duo; but it is conceivable, based on past circumstances, that Apple could get access to it early. (Say: announced at WWDC, shipping a month later.) I would *REALLY* like to see a quad-core iMac, but since the latest update didn't bring it, I assume I'll need to wait until September timeframe for that. (Ironically, while the September-timeframe mobile Core 2 Quad is the same basic core as the current mobile Core 2 Duos, it is expected to be LOWER power than the 3.06 GHz chip in the iMac; although it is only 2.53 GHz.)

I agree, I'm thinking that the MB redesign they'll be able to make it a bit thinner and lighter since they can get the same life out of a smaller battery. Not MB Air thin, but a little slimmer and lighter (4 lbs, .9" vs 5lbs and 1").

If it's a typo, let's have T-shirts made with that image on them. The ultimate Apple-geek-rumor-in-joke.

Looks like a typo. I just saw a 2.4 GHz ad on the hotnews page.

Edit: They wouldn't have 2 going would they?

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.0.10031/302; U; en))

Its a typo. Otherwise there's no point on having a Pro lineup of notebooks.

It's all about the MacBook 15"?.. Maybe

I noticed that text while loading MacBook's link.

They'd update the processor speed of the MBP's I'm assuming. I don't see how processor speed alone would make the MBP make no sense to exist though.

Just went to that page myself. That's strange that the alternate text for that image says 15-inch.

yeah, really strange. first I thought the 2.6 GHz was a typo..but now this "15 inch Macbook" line? Maybe they just are a bit lousy and don't really care about the link names anymore, or there's something new really soon as everyone expects.
Now it would be good to know, since when that picture field contains that 15 inch text.

EDIT: hm, now about a bit more thinking and looking at the MBP page, I think they just might have copied over the HTML code and didn't edit the text properly on the MB page.

I've just had that page running for 10 minutes while reading this thread. Seems the macbook's gone. There's no MB image in the rotation, just one for the 2.6ghz MBP.

New MacBook Pros Confirmed

I'm in Atlanta on a business trip and just noticed that it is official that the MBPs have been bumped to 2.6GHz Processors. Not a huge deal to me, but just thought everyone would like to know.
