1> iPod shuffle stays as is.
2> iPod classic being EOL'd/phased-out (may still be sold for awhile).

3> existing iPod nano will continue, perhaps with updates/revisions being repositioned as simply "iPod" (perhaps in future revisions getting larger flash storage and dubbed the "iPod classic").

4> the square thing is the NEW "iPod nano".

(i only suggest that b/c they already had an iPod "mini", and "iPod micro" just sounds not-that-good to me).

this is all just off the top of my head. probably it is all wrong, so don't flame me. i'm not an analyst or psychic. the square case thing could well be fake.

Looks more like the shuffle form factor to me, but you never know. Its not like Apple hasn't made some ridiculous decisions in the past. [3rd gen shuffle, downgraded classic capacity, 2007 colors ..yuck..]

Well at least now there is some evidence of a rear camera on the ipod touch which is what I really want. The smaller case looks more like a shuffle to me, could they possibly be phasing out the nano or just making the nano a hybrid of the shuffle and the nano? I don't think they would make the nano that small, that is more the size of the iPod shuffle.

The sandisk sansa clip or clip plus has the shuffle market IMO, I have one and it totally blows the shuffle away. It has a screen, its tiny and has FM radio plus you can use any headphones unlike the current gen shuffle. Just because I feel its infinitely better doesn't mean that it sells more than the shuffle though. But perhaps apple is trying to compete with this by giving the shuffle a small screen.

Regarding my earlier comment about a floating click wheel on the touch screen of the nano.

I remember a patent application from Apple outlining this exact feature. Anyone able to source the link for that?;)

Maybe I'm the odd one out, but I actually like the idea of such a small device with multi-touch capabilities. Of course, I know the screen will be too small to perform some of the functions possible on the iPhone or iPad, but new Nano-specific gestures could be introduced. I don't know, it just seems pretty sci-fi to me, and I love the idea lol.

You're definitely right, anything else interesting in Steve's brain you can let us in on?

From the mind of Steve Jobs:

* The iPad is more important to the future of Apple than the Mac or the iPhone ever were.

* The 2nd season of The Big Bang theory was its best.

* Movie studios are so frick'n stupid.

* You remember that iPhone antenna guy we fired? Nobody's heard from him lately, have they? That's proably a coincidence and you should just stop thinking about it.

* Honestly, I think I can believe it's not butter.

* Of all the current Macs, only the iMac matters, long-term.

* Whoever thought that dark chocolate Snickers was a good idea should be fired, re-hired, and then fired again.

As you can see, reading his mind is really hit-and-miss when it comes to good info.

Not a fan of them losing the click wheel. I love the shuffle as the shuffle and the nano as the nano.

I hate waiting for this. My cousin wants me to get them an iPod Nano here stateside since it's cheaper.

It's a fight between an iPod Touch or iPad mini for me.

Hopefully the iPod Touch case is wrong. The Touch needs a redesign. If it got a tapered back I HOPE it is at least black.

I'd bet that the top ones are for the 'new Shuffle' with a display rather than some new Nano that essentially goes back to where they were...

If anything, if the Shuffle stays in the same format, 'the stick', it will probably die as a product. Most people hate it and it's hard to sell them. I personally have one and love it, but can't find it at the moment because it's so damn small... I really love using it while snow skiing as the screen, which it lacks, doesn't freeze up and become useless as, well, a frozen screen (like in my older gen squarish Nano which froze like crazy in minutes somedays)... I can tuck the Shuffle down next to my warmer body rather than leaving it out where it can get too cold because I 'have to see the screen while racing down the hill at breakneck speeds'...

My vote is Shuffle... Only Steve knows for sure...

Also, if it was for a new Nano, where's the camera port? Why would Apple release a Nano with a camera and then kill the camera again? Still thinking Shuffle, even more.

If the Touch gets a makeover, I expect it to look like a smaller iPhone 4, although if it were the same size then people wouldn't have to buy so many cases. Oh, that was the point? Never mind...

same here... it will be good to be able to wear :apple: on my hand wrist :D

Mr. Tracy? Is that you?

Why does the iPod Touch case have a hole for a camera and FLASH ????

Guys, this is the new replacement for the shuffle. You can either clip it on, use voice commands, and use the headphone buttons to navigate your music, or strap it on to a $30 wristband and it becomes a FaceTime-able watch. Apple will position this as THE high end running device with built in GPS tracking and built in Nike+. Can track your HR too via HR monitor accessory.

Edit: when sold alone, it's the iPod Shuffle. When sold packaged with the wristband, it's marketed as the iPod Watch.

The little square one would be a perfect fit for on my mountain bike. Hello Nike? That's at least the first thing that came to mind [recalling to have seen a patent application for bike stuff].
