Why does the iPod Touch case have a hole for a camera and FLASH ????

Flash or Mic?

past leaked photos of the iPod touch have had the mic right next to the camera.

but also, past leaked images had the camera and mic in the center (side-by-side) so who knows what the final product will be.

I still think this small screen is for the new Shuffle and not the nano.

It could very well be the new shuffle. I mean they went though the trouble to add video and them a video camcorder to only throw it all out?

How do we know that they are throwing out the camera though? It looks like the small square cases have a cut-out in the back of them. Has to be to allow for some feature.

At first glance (before reading the headline) I thought the cases had 'x drobo'
on them and for a split second thought 'cases for a portable mini drobo!' Similar font.
I guess I have it on the brain since I just bought the four bay one on Tuesday.

A square display could mean widescreen video + room at the bottom for touch controls without covering the video. Don't know if that justifies a square though.

Is this going to be the merger of the iPod shuffle and iPod nano? (Does that even make sense?)

As for the greyish rectangle in the middle of the cases, I'm assuming that's a hole, but for… camera? clip?

Its a iphone nano !

Finally an iphone nano for the masses people.Cheaper than the current iphone which will then be considered as a deluxe version, this one will be meant for the rest of the world meaning the less fortunate. And its going to be a killer again..Iphone nano ..it changes everything again

1> iPod shuffle stays as is.
2> iPod classic being EOL'd/phased-out (may still be sold for awhile).

3> existing iPod nano will continue, perhaps with updates/revisions being repositioned as simply "iPod" (perhaps in future revisions getting larger flash storage and dubbed the "iPod classic").

4> the square thing is the NEW "iPod nano".

(i only suggest that b/c they already had an iPod "mini", and "iPod micro" just sounds not-that-good to me).

this is all just off the top of my head. probably it is all wrong, so don't flame me. i'm not an analyst or psychic. the square case thing could well be fake.

"Micro" sounds 'not as good' as "nano", because it isn't. Next would be iPod pico.

...or I guess since they skipped micro, they might also skip pico and go to femto, but I think skipping micro was more for marketing/aesthetic reasons.

What if it's not an iPod Nano but a new iPod? Maybe the new Shuffle... The square aspect ratio sure is strange!

I would bet that is the hole for the clip.

Maybe they are consolidating the shuffle and nano. With a touchscreen, there's enough space to make the nano screen work while also making it as small as the shuffle.

What I find weird is the positioning of the camera on the supposed iPod Touch case. Wouldn't it interfere with the Wifi black patch on the back of the iPod? Hmmm...

Yessss! I never thought this day would come!!! Flash for iPod touch!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSS

i'm hoping this the shuffle and we get a nano simalr to last gens but full screen no click wheel.

If Apple moves to an external antenna on the iPod touch 4 as they did with the iPhone 4, there would be no need for the black plastic inlay.

It is there for radio transparency because the antenna is inside the unit (current and prior iPod touch models).

As long as we are speculating...

New Products

iPods: All touch, all "touch points" covered.
1.7 inch touch shuffle replacement: Beginning at $99 (8GB)
2.8 inch touch nano (same resolution as current touch): Beginning at $199 (16GB)
3.5 inch new retina display, FaceTime, iPod touch: Beginning at $299 (32GB)

iPad
7.0 inch iPad: Beginning at $399 (16GB)

iTV iOS device of some type

The most important thing would be to make the new shuffle/nano cost effective. The only reason I need another iPod once again (when I already have so many iPod laying around alongside the iPhone) is to buy into its hype and freshness and cool factor - and it needs to be cheap for me to dip again.

Speculation

My guess is that the iPod classic will continue to exist. The iPod nano and iPod shuffle will be phased out and replaced by a new iPod. The Apple TV will become iTV only because it will run iOS from now on, but it will in no way be a living room contender. Death to the cable companies! VoIP did it to the phone companies, why can't iTV do it to cable?

Who says it is a touch screen? Get a ruler out and see how big 3cm x 3cm is. A touch screen without some sort of stylus is highly questionable.

Most logical thing written so far

Well it does make sense. Why add bunch of features to only get rid of them?

Why does everyone want an iphone nano? You mean a phone that will just do phone calls? Like a old flip phone or one of thise pre paid ones. I highly dopbut jobs will ever go that route kid.
