My gut feeling is that if it does come, it would be in the spring 2019. As it is Apple’s cheapest iPhone, they would probably be more interested in selling their more expensive lot first (the rumoured new X and X Plus first, then the new 6.1” LCD one).
Agreed. I certainly hope so. I WOULD like to hear battery life for SE improved some.

Apparently the SE sold well in Apple's product mix, so it is unclear why they are not refreshing it.

Unless they concluded it sold well largely because of price point, not form factor, and they are possibly trying to match the SE's current price with a heavily discounted 7.

In Italy you can buy a new SE for 250€. The rest of the lineup is outrageously more expensive.

I love the SE form factor, but lacking updates, I would probably have very few qualms about moving to a 7 if it were priced so low.
For me, it's form factor, unlock button, earphone jack not so much.

And therein lies the technical challenge of fitting a bigger screen into smaller chassis. My understanding is that if Apple were to fit an edge-to-edge screen in the current SE body it would decrease its battery life, as there simply would not be enough physical space for a bigger battery.

NO, no, no no, no!!! We do not want another "X" based looking phone. Apple needs to update the 8 Plus, keep the home button and add the freaking headphone jack back. Life without the notch is so much better.

We who? i love iPhone X design.

Want to sell a lot of phones Apple? 6.1" OLED, touch id, headphone jack, dual rear cameras. $799 max price.

Absolutely. You can already see the small tidbits of hinting going out. Typical Apple MO. No reason to stop. Works every time. Just like following the Piper. ;)
How is it Apple’s MO for analysts posting the same story every year?

Is it really a leak if it’s a dummy made by a company as a stand-in for case manufacturers product shots?

Who's "we"?

Even LG has done market research and concluded that nobody cares about the notch, except a vocal minority.
I don't want an iPhone X. In fact, I only know 2 people with an iPhone X. A couple of my friends bought new phones just the other day and they didn't like the X and got the 8 and 8 plus.

Am I the only one who really likes the size of the iPhone X as it is now? I came from an 8+ which I really liked, but the X feels better to me and I'm not really sacrificing screen size. I don't need a longer phone...I'm happy with my phone (for once!)

I really like the X’s dimensions. I wanted a thicker iPhone with a bigger battery and higher definition OLED screen. I had an iPhone 6+ and it was too large for pockets and the bezels were comically big.

I didn’t want glass back, a notch, or a slimmer and longer screen, but that’s just the way it is.

I wish they’d put Touch ID along the side of the X. But hey, I’m not the one designing the iPhone.

Serial mobile leaker Benjamin Geskin today shared images depicting what he claims are dummy units of Apple's upcoming 6.5-inch "iPhone X Plus" and mid-tier 6.1-inch LCD iPhone.

Images of iPhone dummy units have become something of an annual tradition in the rumor mill and these pictures come at the expected time in the yearly iPhone cycle, just a couple of months ahead of Apple's usual September-October launch timeframe.

Dummy units are usually based on chassis design schematics sourced from the Chinese supply chain, and like previous years, these images conform with details we already know.

Apple is expected to launch two flagship OLED iPhones this year that measure in at 5.8 and 6.5 inches. The latter model shown in the leaked images features the same vertically oriented dual-lens rear camera as the current iPhone X. One uncorroborated report claimed the 6.5-inch iPhone will use a triple-lens camera setup, but that's actually something that's been rumored for the 2019 iPhone lineup.

Apple is also expected to debut a lower-cost 6.1-inch device that features an LCD display to keep the price tag more affordable. As predicted, the 6.1-inch dummy unit in the images has slightly larger bezels to accommodate the lower-spec LCD panel.

As a mid-range device, the 6.1-inch model will feature some iPhone X features including Face ID, but Apple is planning to make other compromises apart from the screen to keep the cost down. The single-lens rear camera shown in the images is the most obvious of these. Apple is also believed to be using aluminum for the frame of the 6.1-inch device instead of steel.

While the current iPhone X is limited to Space Gray and Silver, well-connected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the next-generation iPhone X models will be available in Black, White, and Gold. The 6.1-inch model however could come in a wide array of colors, including red, blue, orange, gray, and white.

Kuo believes the 6.1-inch LCD device will be priced at around the $700 to $800 mark, similar to the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus. RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani believes Apple will sell the iPhone X Plus at $999, the price of the current iPhone X, while the next-generation iPhone X could sell for $899.

Wow that 6.5" looks massive! I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on it. It's a shame that this narrow form factor is a permanent thing now, but oh well I guess we adapt.

The X screen is virtually the same size as the older 7/8 model when you account for the developer guidelines. The only apps I've seen that don't adopt the guidelines and show some information outside of these bounds are things like video or map apps, but everything else is constrained into pretty much the same physical size of the 7/8 screen. That's why in practice the 7+/8+ screen is still larger. If you stretch things like video out on the X then you get everyone crying about the notch, so even then it seems functionally almost identical to the 7/8.

Even so I still love my X, but the text is just too small and I really need a larger screen overall.

If they go from an OLED display and double lens camera module to LCD and single lens in the new 6.1" a $100 difference between them wouldn't be much of a difference IMO.

Good lord !
The x plus looks kinda ugly being used to the x design in the smaller size

More jarring than the plus phones

Not really, Jony Ive could, god forbid - go thicker! Just for a change, it would work fine with the smaller form factor and could arguably be more ergonomic (as well as actually a much bigger battery by increasing in that dimension) - the iPhone 3G felt great in the hand and was 13mm or so thick. Just seems Ive is out of ideas and inspiration, just wants to go thin, have protruding camera etc...

I'm hoping that's the original iPhone X, with the new iPhone SE2 next to it.
It's not.

No such thing as a phone that will ever be suitable to certinaly use caseless
I use all my iPhones caseless.

don't crush my spirit. I need a new SE.

I use all my iPhones caseless

No, it's not. I also had a JB 7 Plus before moving to the X, it feels completely different, slippery and very difficult to use caseless.

The Jet Black finish on your 7 Plus is responsible for the difference. It’s a great looking and very grippy finish. I never use a case with my 7 Plus and that finish is the reason why.
