$829.00, if you're going with the 3G+Wifi model.

Heres hoping that 32GB is the new entry NAND, that would make any MSRP delta (from the iPad 2) palatable.

PS: I was a total naysayer about the iPad, then I got the iPad 2 and it blew me away. Youll enjoy it friend!

Hmm, what about the top of the line WiFi-only? LOL, I was also a total naysayer about the whole iPad idea. When it first came out, I was like "why do I need a larger iPhone? This is stupid" but now I see it as a way more portable laptop to browse the web, watch videos with :-]

I love my iPad 2 but if the iPad 3 has a retina display, I'll snatch one of these up ASAP!!!

1. The blurring of the Apple logo in the pics is funny. Not sure why that was needed?

2. I know it is only slightly thicker, but to me this is a mistake. It should never get thicker or heavier. This is a slight step back. It still may be a fantastic device and make up for it in other ways, but this is unfortunate in my opinion.

Do you think they should wait a few years until the technology is better as others release their high res tabs or just except that it will be an noticeable increase in thickness in the grand scheme of things?

I am aware trade offs may need to be made. I just think it is unfortunate. Would people have the same opinion if the Air got thicker? Like I said, it still may be a great product. But it would be even better if it got a higher resolution screen and did not get any thicker.

Sure, you can make http://www.malibal.com/nine/...

but what you really need may be http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/

The first one you cite isn't really the best one to make your point. That houses 330W of dissipating components and has a better CPU and GPU performance than most desktops out there. It's a true desktop replacement and has a lot of heat dissipating capacity built-in along with an ODD and space for three 2.5" SATA drives.

Can't see anybody not buying this about 1 mm in thickness.

If they add a larger battery wouldn't that mean more weight, unless they find other components to make it lighter.

Thickness

Honestly, adding 1 mm is not a big deal, especially with a nicer screen and larger battery. Come on Apple, make that announcement!!!

iPad 2S/3

:apple:What kept me from buying the iPad 2 was the Screen Resolution, i didn't want to buy and maybe not like the product it self.

:apple:But i'm buying the iPad 3 no matter what. I Looking for Retina Display, More Ram, New Chip (maybe just little bit improved?) and very good battery life.

:apple:Now, i got the iPhone 4S already and i LOVE it. Perfect phone and size.;)

:apple:I'll be mainly using the iPad for School, Movies, and probably just neat to have a large display and not carrying a huge laptop.

:apple:I've already been saving money for about 3 - 4 months now, and i'm looking forward to see Tim Cook on stage introducing to us the new iPad in March ^^

Can't Wait :):D

I just noticed the "iPad 3" screen has equal thickness on either side of the screen whereas the iPad 2 only has thickness on the left side. Must be the second light bar on the iPad 3?

So if the look and feel of this product is just like iPad 2 (even if it has retina display and other things that have been rumored) will the techies and investor analysts call it a failure like they did iPhone 4S?

Yes. And it would still be about 1/4 thinner than the original iPad. The key "human factors" spec is weight. The biggest flaw of the original iPad was it's weight. The iPad 2 is almost the perfect heft; just a tad too heavy still. So, I would hope Apple would not backtrack here.
As an iPad 1 owner who skipped the 2 I agree. The weight of the iPad 2, for me, "just" comes in under where it doesn't feel uncomfortable. I really don't want the 3 to be any heavier at all.

I hope both the cameras from the 4S replace the existing iPad2 cameras.

With all the money they spent developing the phenomenal 4S cameras, wouldn't it just make more sense? There is no way they are not going to upgrade them at all.

Yea, nice!

This will be the first iPad I don't buy. Nice for you all is the Retina Display, maybe A6 procesor. It probably also will have Siri which will make a keyboard in many cases obsolete - I hope. Just, the upgrade from iPad 2 to the next generation is not worth $830 again. I have my cameras I wanted, have a dual core for browsing and the little gaming I do. iBooks, iWorks etc. work smoothly. Needing more eye candy? Go for it! I still think the iPad 2 is awesome enough for me. I will wait for the iPad 4. I fear that the iPad 3 will have the same problem the iPhone 4S vs. 4 has: It either costs wait or battery to make it more powerful. Gosh, I was so happy when I switched from iPad 1 to 2! Other than the camera, 2 features were the delight: A fster browser thanks to dual core and twice the RAM (and the 3rd Gen will have that too, I assume) and way less bulky - but there, it gets thicker and I assume heavier. Sure, if I would have to choose, I would take the new one but trading up with a price tag is not worth it for me. ;)

Anyone know if the plug connector will be Thunderbolt compatible?

Even without Thunderbolt, getting information on and off through USB or Wi-Fi will probably be so fast I'm not sure why folks are so concerned about huge storage space? Pick a few hours of video, a few days of music, a few dozen of games, a few dozen of productivity apps, and walk out the door. You will still have plenty of room left in your 32 GB iPad. How many days do you expect to be on the road before you next run into a wi-fi connection or have a chance to connect to your own computer? Larger storage just doesn't seem to be necessary.

Anyone know if the plug connector will be Thunderbolt compatible?

While no one outside Apple "knows" anything for sure and Apple has a record of pulling features in the last minute, my suggestion would be "no." I could see that the iPad could be used as a sort of interface to your PC or Mac to manipulate data (e.g. I/O stream as being a touchpad/monitor combo) but not as the main processing device for video. There is not enough real estate for all the "stuff" (menues etc.) on the iPad. Resolution does not change that because you still have to be able to see what you do. Yes, you could connect the iPad to an external monitor - but really - that defies the purpose of using a portable touch device or at least stretches it quite a bit. Also, USB is quite fast (2.0 was 400mbit/sec?) and I have the feeling that bandwidth never was the determining factor for backup/DL speed. Maybe I am wrong on this one though. To keep it simple with charger and interface connector, I would like to see USB3.0 instead but - of course - that is even less likely to happen even though that would not require a different cable (if it is a USB3.0 cable used at 2.0 connections).

This game of controlled leaks before major releases to build up momentum is getting rather boring...

how about fixing os x 10.7 vista instead apple?

I have virtually zero problems with Lion on all 3 macs in my house. My friend has zero problems on hers. We must be an anomaly  ...and don't get me started on Vista.
Needless to say, Apple has different teams working on different products. Just because development of iPad is underway, doesn't mean that development of other products is halted.

I have all Mac products & have been using But after 10 years, is it alot to ask for a company that is based around so much multi media to give us to 2 damn speakers for real stereo sound????

Would like it to have 3 speakers, let the orientation pick the appropriate 2 speakers to use. They could even use smaller speakers if they would just put them facing the front, or worst case out the edge - please do away with rear speakers!

So great to see this! I sold my original iPad last night so I would have the money to pay for the iPad 3 and I was beginning to think this upgrade wouldn't be worth a month without my iPad. But now... :D

I'm really hoping for the Retina display with some better cameras and more memory (NAND and RAM). I have a great feeling the Retina display will happen, same with the better cameras and RAM. 32GB (NAND) memory for the base model would be perfect for me, cuz otherwise I'll have to buy the 16GB, and that's just not enough. But with all of the other stuff they'll be throwing into this thing, that's not too bad of a tradeoff. :) :apple:

It will no doubt be marketed as thinner or as thin as the iPhone 4. The difference currently is (a little less) 1mm if I'm not mistaken...so there's that.
