Maybe one day we'll go back to when phones didn't have camel humps on them.

I patiently await the day my phone can lay flat on a surface again.
This always fascinates me bc I’ve never paid attention to how my phone lays and yet it is surprisingly a complaint people have lmao

Apple (and others) really should stop releasing a 'new' phone every year as there is very little making a new model worth it. Likewise with OS 'updates', etc. It's hard to generate customer excitement when you don't actually provide anything worth getting excited about. Minor camera improvements, adding a button, changing the bloody screen resolution yet again, etc are hardly worth the effort IMO and getting rather tiresome. It's also better for the environment with less e-waste, transport, manufacturing, etc.
The people who appreciate and come to expect relatives to pass their phones down as they upgrade would not agree with you. With that reasoning, skipping one gen of phone would make it a 4 year old phone with a weak battery and mom or grandma would at least 6yrs back at all times

That means that this update isn’t for you. A yearly upgrade is fine bc every release cycle isn’t meant for you.

I’m on a 13 and 16 pro max.

Meaning I’ll likely upgrade my work phone to a 15 and my 16 pro max to an 18 pro max.

Unless something magical comes with the 17, this release cycle isn’t for me and that’s fine.

It’s no different than standard and s model cycles.

The 17 is a worthy upgrade for those in xs-14

Not so much for a 15 and older
I don't think anyone at Apple is trying to excite anyone about the camera bump layout. They might likely want to excite everyone about the camera itself.
This part.

Personally I think it looks hideous but who knows the camera may sell me on it.

I strongly hate USB. Still do. So the announcement of it did nothing for me UNTIL I realized you can charge an iPhone with an iPhone apparently.

At some point, the camera will take up the whole back of the phone and we'll go full circle and use bumpers again.

Perhaps we should wait and see what the reasoning for this is before we past judgement. There might be some hardware behind it that necessitates this extra space and is more cost efficient this way than molding the glass.

I've always stuck with the Pro models, but I'm seriously considering the regular iPhone 17 this time around. The new Pro design just feels really odd to me, and there are rumors that they’re cutting the optical zoom from 5x down to 3x.
Wouldn't it be 3.5x and then 7x with lossless digital zoom from cropping down to 12MP on the increased 48MP sensor? Seems more flexible than 5x to me as you can still get a full resolution 12MP photo at 7x zoom, and native 3.5x which is more useful for mid distance shots.

Thanks for speaking for the masses.

Apple, I need some innovation in my life. Please get back to making magic. These iterative phones aren't cutting it.

It’s like asking for more innovation in how we create knives and forks or bicycle wheels - at best expect iterations as we have already matured in that field. Which is the same with all fields.

Fearful of US tariffs and especially their effect on the Canadian dollar (which, ironically, just gained value against the US dollar....), I bought a 16 Pro a couple of weeks ago. If it weren't for the dismal economic forecasts, I would have waited till the fall and plonked for either an Apple-refurbished 15 Pro (currently not available in Canada) or an iPhone 17, the latter because there's no way I'd buy a device with a camera bump like the 17 Pro's.

"...is just so big. I can't believe it's just so round, it's like, out there, I mean—..."

They went from a bump to a bulge.

Is that a Pro 17 in your pocket or are you just excited about that latest rumor?

So now it will have two wobbly camera bumps. First from lenses to the bump and second from bump to the back of iPhone. I was hoping to finally put it normally on the table. Instead, it will shake more than ever when tapping 💔

And I'm not a masochist who puts a beautiful phone in a protective case!
I never had a broken screen nor ever let my iPhone fall down despite intense hiking, travels etc.

New camera arrangement....everything else the same except 38% faster. Apple has peaked with iPhone.

This new design must have been the only spit-ball idea that stuck to the whiteboard. 🤣 Body gets thinner, camera bump get larger and deeper, case adjusts to be thicker to protect the now very bendable thin body of the phone and to protect the housing of the camera bump.

The magic is gone...the masses have been conditioned to accept what ever bowl of gruel is handed to them.
