Maybe the camera is protruding because they added a "zoom" feature.....maybe it's actually zoomed out like a real camera. Just a thought.
I'm not sure about the design.
There was a plan for the years to come, so maybe he knew about a bigger phone, the iWatch, the Continuity feature (this is so SJ!) but the design of a product can change, I'm sure they tried many different form factors for next iPhone and SJ was already dead when they made the final decision.

I think they need the protruding camera to keep the same number of lenses of iPhone 5S. Since iPhone 6 is thinner they cannot put the same camera without protruding it.
Obviously they cannot make a worse camera compared to a previous model, so they come up with this solution. Let's hope is even better than iPhone 5S camera, although they may postpone a serious camera improvement to 6S
Product outline. The last phone that he was more deeply involved with was the 5 so going forward I think we'll see less and less of his influence in new products.

Optical zoom would be nice but I don't think there's enough space even with the protrusion.
where do you get your info? i believe he knew exactly what this model would look like. he worked on the iPod touch design i don't see how he had no influence on this design.
