I think for my next AirPods, I will just bite the bullet and pay $29 for 2-year AppleCare+. Given how often I use AirPods, the batteries will most assuredly dip below 80% within 2 years.
I very much feel the same. I really hope that Apple will encourage people to trade-in their old AirPods, regardless of condition, for a discount. Even a basic 10% for unusable old devices would be fantastic. This would encourage recycling and be very much in-line with Apple’s commitment to the environment and reduction of e-waste. I am very much sceptical of Apple’s intentions when it comes the latter though, admittedly.

My first generation AirPods get less than 15 minutes after three and a half years. As reluctant as I am to buy another pair of disposable ear phones for £160 I probably would have snapped them up if they were ready next week.
Wow that is expensive, can get 2nd gen on Amazon for $116

Yep it looks as if the like of Prosser and Co have got it wrong.
All we have heard from fairly reliable sources is that iPads are ready to go, Airtags are ready to go, AirPods 3 are ready to go and there will be an event on the 23rd.
With one week to go, that’s all looking very unlikely now unless of course Apple release one or some of those products without an event.
You do have April 1st coming up! ;)

there is such a thing as "reliable leaker" ... LOL
There is. Because some of these ‘insiders’, have proven they have had connections to Apples production assembly. It’s not common that they’re always accurate with release dates, but some of the leaked hardware from iPhone, the Apple Watch were completely accurate.

Just buy Apple Care with your next pair.

I've been pushing off buying the iPad Pro because I figure I'll just wait for the new one. Really want to get it ASAP. Becoming impatient...

I really hope this is wrong..

I need to replace my December 2016 AirPods ---- like yesterday
My 2018s

Supposedly, there is nothing to recycle or reuse in most true wireless earbuds once they are worn out: The tight construction of them make it impossible to disassemble. And since the battery can’t be

Makes $ense for them. I bet AirPods 2 still selling well and or tarrifs affecting profitability.

I think Apple should only release 12 products per year..one for each month..that way people ALWAYS have to something to talk about and buy all year round instead once every quarter..by cramping all the products in the same time it’s a stress for buyers to decide which one( s ) to buy not to mention shelling out big chunk of money the same time.
The number of people desperate to buy every Apple product and getting stressed when they can’t because they come out too close together is vanishingly small. Apple is obviously not going to build its release schedule around those people.

I think it’s easy to forget on these forums that 99% of Apple’s target market isn’t “Apple fans”, they’re just consumers who don’t follow the latest news and announcements.

AppleCare really does pay for itself with just one use. It’s really a good buy in my opinion. Even if it’s just for the battery replacement on an iPhone/iPad/AirPods like you said. But especially with physical damage

That is exactly what Steve Jobs said. If there was no new hardware to announce he would fill in the gaps with new software announcements. But announce something each month. Tim Crook is too busy axing perfectly good products instead.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that iPad sales started to dip when they moved the annual refresh from April to Oct/Nov. Most people only have so much money to spend in one month. Spreading out new product releases helps everyone budget better.

But most people aren't buying one product a month or even once a year. Most people – the significant majority of who Apple is selling products to – will buy one iPad every two years at most, and a Mac way less frequently than that. It doesn't matter how or when they space the releases through the year, that just doesn't reflect how ordinary consumers buy electronic products. Yes, it bothers the kind of people who post on Macrumors.com. But we are a tiny proportion of Apple's revenues.

I don't even really know what you mean with the release window moving to October. The low-cost iPad has had March, September and October refreshes over the past few years. The Air has always been in the fall, except for the 2019 model. The Pros are generally in the spring.

If iPad sales did drop it's to do with the product reaching maturity and market saturation, not the timing of the releases.

This is just untrue. Steve never tried to make an announcement each month for either hardware or software? Apple's hardware product lines were much smaller under Steve anyway, and things like macOS refreshes happened every two years, not every year, so I don't know what software you think he was announcing on a monthly basis. Steve understood the power of scarcity. He didn't want people to get Apple fatigue. When he got on stage and made an announcement it was for a pretty big annual product update. Not just pumping out refreshes every month in order to satisfy the Apple nerds.

It's kinda ridiculous to suggest Apple is trying to do anything else than what they used to do:

COVID happened, guys, and it did in fact impact numerous supply chains necessary for launching new products.

Having Apple buyers be anxious and impatient for new products is a million times better than having them be fuming at Apple for launching a product that sells out instantly and can't be delivered for weeks or months.
