That’s logical, it strengthens the iPhone marketing cycle having dual phone updates occurring Spring and Fall. The 16 naming has given this away. They clearly want a phone to launch in Q1, helping to give a bump in iPhone sales as they start to decline until the main launch in Q3

This is how they will get an e series to $499. Next February the 17e is released at $599, and the 16e moves to $499.
I know you said “hopefully”, but I honestly think Apple is going to stick with the 16e design (1 single camera in the back and a notch on the screen) for at least a couple more of generations. Either for cost cutting, or to not cannibalize the main iPhone sales. Actually both are good reasons.Hopefully, Apple puts in the critical parts this time, like the iPhone 16 main camera and Dynamic Island.
Except for the things that are like the Mac Mini and the base iPad.Before anyone comments..... no... people don`t buy apple products because they`re 'worth it' or 'good value for money'
Yep, their numbering, lettering and naming system across all product and services lines are a joke. The buck stops at the top.Apple rarely has a consistent numbering or lettering system for their products.
It’s one of the biggest ironies
For a company that has so much attention to detail, they just have never been able to decide and stick to a model numbering system or lettering system
I find it an abomination compared to the consistency and thought they usually put into everything else in their products
The Pro Max will be the only iPhone sold within a few years
If they don’t release a 17e this time next year then we will know for sure that they will probably wait the normal 3 years for a update.
The Pixel a has some serious disadvantages:I dunno if the gamble pays of to copy the Pixel a series pays off. Especially since the Pixel a series seems to offer a bit more.
With 7 years of promised OS upgrades the Pixel a series seems to be bound to entice more people that are not beholden to one or the other ecosystem of products.
The a series can also do colors instead of the boring 16e offer.
Heck, even I think about switching back to an Android phone, if my 13 minis bites the dust.
If so, they should have simply named it "e" so they will not be trying to sell a phone called 16e when 19 is being sold. Of course, they are presently selling 13 with 14, 15 and 16 available. If they don’t release a 17e this time next year then we will know for sure that they will probably wait the normal 3 years for a update.

The 16e will sell well enough, given that it will be the go-to for business phone bulk purchases. Ironically, if the SE2/3 hadn’t existed, the mini could have had that role.My suspicion is that if the 16e doesn't sell well, Apple will use the Mini casings to add a 16e mini (or 17e mini) to the lineup at the $499 price point. If the 16e does sell well, then we will stay as we are, holding $599 as the iPhone entry price.
Having a confusing lineup is a time-proven strategy for upselling.5 new iPhones each year? a bit confusing to the regular customer...
