How is USB-C inferior to lightning? That comment is kind of... delusional? Innocent?

Lightning is smaller, more well defined, and does not have 1,000 incompatible varieties. It is integrated in many devices (like iHome clock radios at many hotels). It has real certification with better security.

Lightning
is proprietary, restricted, weaker,
Restricted in what way? Weaker in what way?

relies on USB 2.0 protocols released over 20 years ago.

No. Most of the early lightning cables were USB 2.0, but the spec supports other protocols (from my recollection, some much faster).

is an open standard, collaborative, supported by tech giants and small companies alike, it can deliver enough power to charge a 15 in computer, allows for huge data transfer rates and drives 4K screens with no lag.

As I mentioned, there are a million different kinds of incompatible USB-C cables. Half the time I end up with the wrong one (charge only, or low power).

USB-C > Lightning, USB-C is superior in every regard.

As shown above, just not correct.

And... I hate having to carry different cables everywhere I go. Another annoying thing is that I am never lucky with third-party lightning accessories even when they carry the "Mfi" stamp, many times they display the "accessory not supported" message and it drives me crazy.

You have just described by USB-C experience.

I'm gonna be all over these new phones this year. I'm still rolling with an 8 Plus and feel the time is coming to upgrade. If the rumoured form factor redesign is accurate, I will preorder instantly. Pro Motion or otherwise.

How will this affect battery life? Didn't Samsung have issues with battery life and 120hz? I'm not sure I would really care for something this imperceptible on a small screen just to have lowered battery life or have to choose when to have it on or off.

I imagine rumoured 4400 battery will help sort this. Apple been working on it for 3 years I believe to get it right with display and battery issues so if it comes the battery life should be the same

I think if Apple switches to 120hz on iPhone, they will surely integrate it as Promotion. I doesn't make sense to have that kind of tech in iPad and not have it on iPhone. It might be more difficult / expensive to have 120hz OLED, so Apple took their time to make it available on iPhones, but it surely will be as advanced as is on iPad.
The Watch is already variable refresh (though I think maxing out at 60 Hz) and OLED. Do they have a special name for that?

Agreed. Hopefully there's an option to go down to 60. I don't play games so I don't really care.
Do you know any reports that the 120 Hz-capable iPad Pro has noticeable lower battery life because of it?

i see no difference, everything gets blurry when I scroll fast either way. Also see no lag or anything when scrolling slower. Maybe I do need glasses haha
It looks somewhat ‘stuttery’ at 60 Hz (I scrolled the list of settings in the Settings app).

I’d really like to have promotion on MacBooks and iMacs. It’s about time! The larger the display, the more it’s needed.
Maybe that is coming with ARM Macs, they certainly will control more of the stack then.

So happy about this. For those worried about battery life, I think it's going to improve. Why? Well because the 120hz in the 12 will also come with VRR - variable refresh rate.

This means while it refresh much faster now (yay), it can also go a lot slower than before and so will make up that battery usage and likely exceed iPhone 11 runtimes.

That's my 2c fwiw.
