Leaker Jon Prosser Claims iPhone 12 and New iPads Will Launch in October

Anybody who has an iPhone 8 or later really does not need to be looking at upgrading to an iPhone 12. Use the phone until Apple stops providing iOS updates or you run out of storage or the phone drops on pavement. On top of when Apple stops providing iOS updates for the device, use it for another 3 years when third party app devs stop supporting that release of iOS. Seriously, think of how much money you could save.
I like the idea of upgrading to 5G, though I understand where you are coming from as my X is working just fine.

This is inaccurate. We haven't deleted articles. Not sure we've really claimed that he's wrong, but the AirPower images that he shared were determined to be a clone device and therefore not a future AirPower. Most leakers get some things right and some things wrong.

I’m curious how you determine whether or not to post a leak/rumour. How much vetting goes into the process because frankly, the number of tweets by anonymous leakers has gotten out of hand.
Perhaps it’s COVID and people have nothing better to do than make up fake accounts and troll sites such as this.

There’s a balancing act and I understand the need to generate ad revenue. We come here for the latest info, but we’re a cynical lot to begin with. If you cry wolf too many times, we just get numb to it and tune out (fewer page views). I think it can damage the MacRumors brand if every tweet becomes a news story.

8 is really stretching it... mine already can’t handle what I need it to do.
I am genuinely curious what that is. I have an 8, and it still feels like new. Good battery. Everything is fast. Screen is beautiful. Just some scuffs on the corners from a few butterfinger fumbles.

On a separate note, to people thinking the mini might get updated but _not_ the air.. what? The current mini is literally a smaller screened air, and so was the one before it. And I think even before that the pattern held, though that far back I don't think the budget non-air model existed to compare to. Anyway, I seriously doubt we'll see a mini update unless there is also an air update since they're the same line. And I doubt we'd see an air/mini update at all prior to a pro update (which is too soon) since they're all already running A12 chips. Personally I'm hoping they update the budget model because using the already-old A10 in the last update was disappointing. It needs to catch up with an A12, then new pros and air/minis with A14s in spring will be compelling.

His track record is actually pretty good. What MacRumors claim is inaccurate might still come to pass. Like before when MacRumors claimed Prosser was wrong and they had to delete their posts because they looked like fools. This is probably another one of those times. Never learn. What bone head wrote this article?

What! He got most of WWDC wrong - new iMac, AirPods Studio, iPhoneOS 🤷‍♂️

He's not great, but not the worse.
However, this site doesn't seem to take in account dates and timing.
For instance he said the AppleTV and iMac was 'ready to ship'...in May.

Yeesh...the hate for Jon Prosser is strong in this thread.

he was, to my knowledge, the first person who said these products would be delayed this year likely October or Nov, and he said this back in March, before even the iPhone SE 2 was launched

some of you guys hate on this guy for no apparent reason. And he was right about a lot of things. Has he always been correct? No. No leaker has a perfect track record. Every leaker “excels” in one thing or another, and JP’s sources are with specific parts of the company and supply chain, similar to how Joriku or Weinback or Komiya or Me White or Love2dream all have various sources. One knows about displays, the other about X product or Y Product part. JP only knows what he knows.

For those of you who are unaware, he made this exact “prediction” back in March, and this current tweet that the new article is commenting about was in response to an explosion on twitter of people reacting to the news, asking him to set the record straight

Give the guy credit where it’s due, or at the very least try and look into where the whole conversation thread started and view his comments in That context

It also doesn't take into account Twitter posts he deletes. Or makes outrageous claims like "Steve Jobs Heritage Edition." And we're still waiting for the real AirPower photo he claims to have after he was called out on the fake one.

That 'In My Dreams' guy would probably be the best and most accurate leaker to date. I would rather trust him.

And that guy trusts Jon Prosser and has retweeted much of JP’s tweets in the past.

so...people are just hating on JP. Within the leaking community he has a lot of respect

Since he said iPads(More than 1 iPad) here's hoping its the mini led iPad Pro..even though that most likely will be coming out in March 2021 still crossing fingers it gets released earlier

He retweets or replies to Prosser. And then posts in Chinese, saying Prosser a joke and a "fisherman" basically fishing for an audience.

L0vetodream definitely does not trust Prosser. LOL.

He got duped into that

but multiple other leakers, equally reputable ones, also claim AirPower is coming.

people have a lot of undignified hate towards him without doing any research. Just one article says something bad and boom judgements drawn.

maybe his whole fiasco with 9to5mac insulted a lot of the hardcore Apple community, who knows. He was wrong for saying what he said publicly but 9to5mac was also wrong for trying to defame him or put him down in the first place. Who knows what the reason is. Best to always look at independent “reputable” leakers with solid track records and see what overlaps.
The overlap tends to be correct

For example, Apple Glass. Now more people are talking about that and have knowledge about it, whereas JP broke that story (and came under intense heat as a result)

interesting. I didn’t know that (I don’t know chinese), but my impression of people’s accounts of their private conversations between each other is that there is mutual respect and agreement

I also wonder why he would call him a joke but at the same time agree with him,
At least in English.

regardless, other leakers who have solid track records do express respect for JP. I think neither you nor I know him on a personal level, and people who are in that leaking community do know him more than either of us do. They tend to have positive things to say about him, from The few who come on podcasts or participate in AMAs to public tweets - they’re vocal at times. I do trust Weinbach, again not always right but he has a decent track record esp with display technology, and he and JP are friends.

point I’m making is, people can choose not believe a leak. But if someone was right about something, give credit where it’s due. Too many people hate and focus on the negatives in this world, where we should be enjoying leaks as they come. It’s part of the Rumor ride whether they are true or not.

“Need” is the key word here. However, when my 8 Plus only held its charge for one “typical” day of use, though at 88% capacity, I bought a 128 GB 11 (which I’ve only had to charge every 3 days - I’ve had it for almost 2 months) and sold my 8 Plus for $400+. Yes, I could have replaced the battery for $79 but with most Apple Stores closed (at the time) and the nearest one to me is 2+ hours away. “Needed”, maybe not, but I’m enjoying the new phone with a very improved camera, among other things.

He’s talked about that before behind the scenes, and other leakers say similarly, you need to confirm with multiple sources multiple times, and even then one of your sources can get caught like what happened with JP

there’s also a whole other world behind the scenes that happens with legal teams and such, so being a leaker isn’t exactly something you just get up and do. You can catch a lot of heat for it.

You’ll notice this is why a lot of these “new” leakers are just reiterating and stealing other people’s leaks.

This isn't impressive. We've all known that the iPhone 12 launches in October. How about sharing something that is exciting or newsworthy.

"The ‌iPad Pro‌ was already refreshed this year..."

Where's that "You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means" meme?
Yeah ... it was slightly bumped. My gf is waiting on the [hopefully] A14 update before throwing that much at a Pro.

I wanna get paid to say stuff people already know. :(

Just my unsolicited 2 cents but the term “leaker” suggests they have valid info discovered through an Apple employee, or an assembly plant. The higher percent of “leakers” are speculators at best. I personally take all of the speculation with a grain of salt.

My question was to MacRumours, not the leakers themselves.

But on that note, I still don't put much stock into many of these leakers. I'm not sure how one catches heat from making a random tweet. They hide under the cover of an anonymous handle, so who's going to go after them?
BTW, you seem to know a lot about their world, could you per chance be one yourself?
