All I know is all that AI promised better work on my 16 pro max Timmy!
You should not get your hopes up. Apps, OS/System usage, + SLM in 12GB indicates the SLM parameter count will be on the lower end and Apple has not demonstrated anything ground breaking yet that their SLMs are even as good as the current state of the art SLMs let alone can do better/more inside the memory left for inference.

Apple "Intelligence" will either be quite terrible (still) or just really, really good at like 2 things.

People seem to forget that back in February Apple announced it will be investing $500 Billion to develop an AI server factory in Houston, Texas. And that manufactured servers will then be deployed around the US for AI applications.

It's 2025. If there is still hand-wringing going on in Cupertino trying to figure out the smallest possible amount of RAM they should put into iPhones, are they even serious about on-device AI? I know they have always been stingy about RAM in their devices, but, come on!
Just Apple bread crumbs. Always got to keep things in their pockets for the next year.

honestly I'm happy with 8GB for now. I don't use any of Apple's AI garbage features. Maybe if they weren't so behind and incompetent I'd welcome more RAM.

Considering I recently got the 16 Pro, I might be able to hold out for 16gb in a few years.

I’m using iOS26 in my 15PM. I'm sure that it will get better when the final version comes but my phone is a bit laggy compared to the betas I have tested earlier. So, 12Gb is necessary.
