Leaker Says Apple's Lower-Cost MacBook Will Have These 8 Limitations

The people buying this laptop are not the people that frequent these forums. This is for the same people who bought the iPhone 16e -- customers buying into an ecosystem solely on cost (including parents and senior citizens) and bulk purchasers in enterprise that are using these machines largely as terminals for web-based applications. It's designed to hit a price point and plug a gap in the customer base.

This will all come down to the price. If it's low enough then it can be a major threat to Windows and other budget laptops and possibly bring a big expansion to Apple's marketshare of the personal computing market.

Plus, here in Canada, $599 USD would probably be around $899 CAD, and $699 USD would likely be about $999 CAD. The MacBook Air starts at $1399 CAD here.

I’d be interested in a MacBook at 1000$ CND, but only if it has 12GB of RAM and external monitor support.

Where’s the mention of 8 GB of ram???
Hopefully this is good enough for my brothers first laptop but if 8 GB probably not, and HOPEFULLY this does not make the MacBook Air going on sale more expensive

You either had the weirdo one-off aluminum "MacBook" that was just a Pro with lesser specs, or a plastic MacBook without a light up keyboard. There was never a plastic MacBook with a light up keyboard.

M4 Air was available last summer for CA$999 through the BTS loophole.

Exactly. It's a parts bin product. Even the chip driving it is derived from a nearly two year old iPhone. Spoiler alert: There will be no "innovation" in this laptop beyond supply chain and manufacturing efficiencies that allow Apple to sell it at what they hope will be a market share-expanding low price point.

8gb of ram is what comes with the A18 Pro, from what I understand. Unless Apple is cooking up something special, which I doubt. A low price comes from cheap, off the shelf parts. Not custom chips.
