A known Weibo leaker has stepped into an ongoing disagreement over exactly how dark the iPhone 18 Pro Max's rumored Dark Cherry color will look, saying the deeper of two shades circulating online is the accurate one.

In a new post on Weibo, the leaker known as "Fixed Focus Digital" said two versions of the color have been mocked up online, one lighter and one darker, and claimed the darker version is correct. The leaker described the accurate shade as closer to a purplish red similar to a cherry, rather than the lighter, brighter red alternative some renders have shown.

The claim adds to what has already become one of the most heavily reported details of the ‌iPhone 18 Pro's‌ rumor cycle. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was among the first to report on the color, describing it in February as a deep red.

In April, Macworld reported that Apple was preparing a signature new color called "Dark Cherry" for the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 18 Pro Max‌, described as a deep, wine-like red rather than a brighter tone. The report said the color would replace Cosmic Orange as the line's headline shade and listed an internal Pantone code of 6076. A follow-up report in May from the leaker known as "Instant Digital" corroborated the color, describing it as a mix of burgundy, coffee, and deep purple.

Dummy models shared later that month by leaker Sonny Dickson showed the ‌iPhone 18 Pro Max‌ in "Dark Cherry" alongside Light Blue, Black, and Silver, with Dickson predicting the color would follow Cosmic Orange as the line's next standout hit. A separate SIM tray image shared in June by leaker Ice Universe offered another look at the color.

Apple is expected to unveil the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 18 Pro Max‌ next month alongside its first foldable iPhone.

Cherries can be all the way from bright red to almost black. It's not a helpful name, it is too broad 😉

But the purple I've seen in renders is not one I would have called "cherry" at all. It's also not a wine-like. It reminds me of the case I hard on my mini: It was aptly called "plum". I liked it, but I would like a REAL dark red more.

I can’t see this dark cherry being as popular as cosmic orange which was nice and vibrant.

Of course I could be wrong but this just hasn’t got the same appeal, at least for my taste.

People will buy it, even if they don't like the color just to show off that they got the latest. Same happened with orange, who likes orange besides the Dutch

The mockup MacRumors keeps using is closer to a purple. Like I don’t even see a hint of red in it.

Based on the way it’s being described, I’d imagine it’s closer to this?

Which would be an instant buy for me

I like that color - tho I’d call it more plum purple than cherry… Bought a box of cherries from Trader Joe’s over the weekend…

I’m not one for flashy colors if I can help it.

Correct, most people want the color just to differentiate themselves. But ultimately, everyone ends up with orange making it futile.

If orange were actually desirable, Apple wouldn’t need to launch 17 Pro/Max in silver or blue.

I ve got the dark cherry leather case for an iPhone 13. I like the color, but I also liked the orange.

Hopefully the new CEO brings back the leather cases.

- Cool guys will go with silver (like me)
- Guys who don’t know or care about radiation heating will go with black
- “My girl is beating me every night and i see no problem with it” guys will go with blue, and
- “everybody should know i have a new iphone and i can afford it” guys will go with dark cherry.

Good colors.

I dunno why people keep mocking this up in a blush wine color. Search for dark cherry. That ain't it, unless this is what Apple is gonna do, and also got it wrong.

Maybe some of you pipsqueak young'ins only buy colors to show them off.

As an older person, I buy bright colors like orange so I can find my phone easier. Black phones are impossible to find when they fall on the floor in shadows or on a car's floor.

My 16 Pro will be passed to my partner while I get a foldable as I don’t take many pictures since the last few years. I leave the picture taking to my partner.

The orange was hideous. They need a full champagne color like the gold Apple Watch. The previous gold iPhone with the pinkish off-white glass on the back, isn't doing it for me.

And if you can get one without selling a kidney, good on you. The rest of the tech industry shoud be metaphorically punching the AI thieves in the facial region. Nope! AI bros win.

I have never seen an industry roll over like this in my lifetime. Not with WWW, not with Web 2.0, not with crypto. It is beginning to border on madness, IMO, having tried and failed to buy a Mac Studio with real money, not credit, recently. Something, someone, has to have a shred of sanity remaining.
