A known Weibo leaker has stepped into an ongoing disagreement over exactly how dark the iPhone 18 Pro Max's rumored Dark Cherry color will look, saying the deeper of two shades circulating online is the accurate one.

In a new post on Weibo, the leaker known as "Fixed Focus Digital" said two versions of the color have been mocked up online, one lighter and one darker, and claimed the darker version is correct. The leaker described the accurate shade as closer to a purplish red similar to a cherry, rather than the lighter, brighter red alternative some renders have shown.

The claim adds to what has already become one of the most heavily reported details of the ‌iPhone 18 Pro's‌ rumor cycle. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was among the first to report on the color, describing it in February as a deep red.

In April, Macworld reported that Apple was preparing a signature new color called "Dark Cherry" for the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 18 Pro Max‌, described as a deep, wine-like red rather than a brighter tone. The report said the color would replace Cosmic Orange as the line's headline shade and listed an internal Pantone code of 6076. A follow-up report in May from the leaker known as "Instant Digital" corroborated the color, describing it as a mix of burgundy, coffee, and deep purple.

Dummy models shared later that month by leaker Sonny Dickson showed the ‌iPhone 18 Pro Max‌ in "Dark Cherry" alongside Light Blue, Black, and Silver, with Dickson predicting the color would follow Cosmic Orange as the line's next standout hit. A separate SIM tray image shared in June by leaker Ice Universe offered another look at the color.

Apple is expected to unveil the ‌iPhone 18 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 18 Pro Max‌ next month alongside its first foldable iPhone.

same "leaker" who claimed that iPhone 17 prices would go up today? sure, keep it going ...

It reminds me of the case I hard on my mini: It was aptly called "plum". I liked it, but I would like a REAL dark red more.
This was exactly my thought! It looks super close to those cases back then…I think I had them on my 16 Pro and Series 10 at the beginning as well. If there’s not going to be a gold-adjacent color this year, it might be time to go silver again, for the first time in years, and just pair that with a case from the fall 2026 collection. Or maybe I will just go with this Plum-like color, I dunno.

It makes sense. Two light colors and two dark colors and the Pro line of iPhone's have traditionally been a bit darker (but not always). The dark cherry is sort of a throw back to the iPhone 14 Pro Max in purple which I really enjoyed just like the Deep Blue is a throwback to the 15 Pro color. Glad they are keeping the Silver it seems, the light blue is nice too. I honestly love blue so I am biased but I think it looks so good on iPhone's!

I really really like that dark cherry, but I also need to practice fiscal responsibility and not succumb to the desires of buying the latest model.

For the first time in a long time, I'm at a total loss as to which color I want. Every day I make a new case for a different color. I like them all.

Based on the 17's, which color is least likely to flake or scratch do you think? I suppose it's the silver, but I'm not sure.

Oh well i’ve got the funds and I don’t wanna buy any of the colours because I still cannot stand that plateau so I’ll be holding onto my 16 Pro yet again. And since I’ve got Apple Intelligence turned off I’m probably not missing out that much I hope. The must have AI mantra just leaves me cold.

Hopefully it is not too dark. Waiting to see the final shade. Something bright and saturated like the Orange 17 Pro/Pro Max will be great.
