My speculation would be that ears are going to be a "pro" distinguishing feature or we'd have seen them on the 24" iMac.
There’s much less point to having them on an iMac because there’s no space constraint.
A laptop has to fit into a bag, so you care about how large it is and want to squeeze as much as possible into that space. A desktop, especially an all in one, can afford the odd extra cm here or there without any inconvenience.

A laptop has to fit into a bag, so you care about how large it is and want to squeeze as much as possible into that space.

Yet a lot of effort has clearly been made to make the 24" iMac as small and thin as possible, sacrificing things like a built-in power supply, standard power connector and ethernet jack... Even in iMac discussions, "make the bezels smaller, and lose the chin" are frequent requests.

...and if you like the notch, the advantages are the same - fit the menu bar around the camera housing and leave the full screen area clear. Not to mention maintaining UI consistency and providing more incentive for app developers to make good use of the "ears".

I have no idea what idiot at Apple thought having the menu bar change colors was a good idea, and I really wish they'd fire them.)
It looks a bit stupid if your screen is very crowded and so is mostly grey, but it works well when you can see your desktop. I’ve never had problems with readability, but then my corrected eyesight is fine.

I would love to see white bezels (or the color of the rest of the laptop). I am tired of black color for electronics.
I would love to see colored Air laptops, with a large variety and hopefully more intense colors than what Apple did with the 24 inch iMac which look fantastic from the back, but very tame from the front.
Two more things I would love to see with the new Air, 16GB of RAM as base, HDMI port, SD card slot, cheaper at least 1TB upgrade.
Yes I know they are not just two, but let's face it none of them will happen.

^^ I could see an SD card slot returning to the Air, but HDMI could be much less likely if they’re intent on keeping the Air thin and light as befits its name. 16GB and 512 SSD for base spec sounds great, but I suspect thats not likely either, but it might make upgrade to 1TB less unpleasant.

Apple if you are reading this please try to get it right with the 2022 Macbook Air

* Have a Silver and Space Grey Colour in the line up of colours
* No Notch keep the bezel slim on all four sides (keep the 720p cam if you need too)
* Use the same Magsafe design from the 14" and 16" Macbook Pro
* Add Headphone Jack, USB-C, SD Card Slot and USB-A ports

This will sell like hot cakes I guarantee you!!

Notch Smotch. We all have too much time on our hands. I read all the rumors, as does eveyone here, I'm using a 2015 Air, my partner the newest Air. I forgot how fast a computer could be, was about to order and then thought... I love notches, I'll wait until 2022.

I agree with all except this. I don't think the notch is a big issue and if it is you can make your menu bar black and literally never see it
How are you supposed to make the menu black when you have those nasty pastel colours on the Macbook Air? The notch will be an eye sore to look at when you are watching a movie.

It won't have white bezels or white notch.

The whole reason the notch works on the MBP is because it disappears in full screen mode due to being black, and the mini leds shutting off at the sides. That wouldn't happen with white notch/bezels.

This is just Prosser making a prediction based on the iMac being colourful, and thinking that will extend over to the air. The guy is full of crap.

Researchers and Leakers are claiming the 2023 MacBooks will have a logo icon of a dead horse to replace the notch
and a string of beets to replace the bezels
in any color you like!
