If you do not want to leave it on charge the whole week, go to the store and get a timer that can turn a light on and off. Have it turn on once a day for a few hours and turn off the rest of the time. You could also use the dusk to dawn feature and if the sensor is near a window it would only charge at night!:p

My power strip for the bedroom is like this. For my laptop, iPhone, work phone, wife's phone and her laptop is like this. After 1900 till 1 am on weekdays and 11 am till 1 am weekends. Cost me $10 for an electric timer. We aren't home much and no need to feed the vampires.

No matter what anyone says here, you are still going to be worried about leaving the phone on & plugged in while u are away. Solve all the problems and bring it with u. Just leave it packed away with ur socks and charge it every couple days or whenever needed.

This is actually quite clever, albeit unnecessary IMO.

I'm late to the party, but for what it's worth my 2G iPhone has been plugged in almost 24/7 for the past 4.5 years with no problem.

A.

I'm leaving for Aruba tomorrow and decided not to take my iPhone with me. Last time I went on vacation I turned the phone off and left it at home, but when I got back and turned it on not all of the texts that were sent to me were received by my phone.

This time I was thinking of leaving the phone plugged into the charger for the week just so all texts and calls would come through normally and I could check them when I'm home.

Is there any dangers to leaving the phone plugged in for this long? My main concerns would be the phone overheating and maybe a fire starting if something happens with the charger.

I wouldn't. It’s important to keep the electrons in it moving. If you leave it at 100% charge for a week it will freeze your electrons. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time.

If you don’t plan on using your iPhone for more than three weeks, Apple recommends that you store it with the battery charged between 50%-75% and the device completely turned off, not just put to sleep. If you store it when the battery is fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life.

Thanks for this info. I'm leaving the country for 12 weeks & I'm not taking my iPhone (will have a dumbphone though).

If your leaving the country for 12 weeks why wouldn't you want your iPhone? Just wondering... Doesn't it have all your music and apps on it?

Is OP back from Aruba? Can't believe I stumbled on this post again. It had to have been a few weeks ago.

most likely as he logged into macrumors on the 10/02/2012 18:37 I am just guessing that he didn't bother to update about his phone in this thread.

Sounds like something that just could go wrong, for whatever reason that I cannot predict right now ;)

True, but it's generally not a good idea to let any electrical equipment sit around for long periods of time with no supervision. Faults can and do occur, which is how a lot of house fires start.

I am an electrician and I LOVE the internet.

If you leave your iPhone plugged for a week, it'll sap all that energy and grow into an iPad.

You would be fine but you may end up losing some charge even though it is plugged in. Once it gets below a certain %, it will charge it back up to 100%. You should be fine. Once you come back, I would strongly recommend draining your battery till your device shuts itself off. This is to recalibrate the battery meter for accuracy.

I know MBP does that. If you leave it plugged in for weeks, month, it is bound to lose some charges, but when the battery % reaches 93% it will recharge itself back to 100%

sorry:D I ended up risking it and took the phone with me because I figured I'd be too bored on the plane and wanted music and some games.

Just leave it plugged in.

Batteries these days look after themselves.

It's 2012, just live a little, it won't effect your phone in the slightest.
