You can keep your Mac Pro running for a long period of time but you have to take 3 things in consideration:

Temperature: Keep your Mac Pro cool with an air conditioner at a fixed temperature.

i'm not too sure about the ambient temperature... don't the mac already run itself cool (not to mention dead silent)... maybe for laptops or imacs, but i'm pretty sure the mac pro is more impervious to warm sorroundings (i live in a very hot, very humid environment and so far so good)

Wait, you mean I can run my mac pro for long periods of time? I shut mine down every 10 minutes to let it cool, :p

There is no reason to stress all the electronics with the surge of power every day and wear the hard drives spinning up and down all the time. Leave it running 24/7.

My PowerMac has been on continuously for the 3 years I've had it.

I know it can run 24/7 but I only use mine on the weekends. So to save power I shut mine down when I wont be using it the next day. Other wise I just let it sleep when not using it.

My Mac Pro runs 24/7, and it has dedicated jobs running all the time on all 8 cores. Each core is always running at 100% of capacity, because I'm constantly running a big computation on it. I only restart it occasionally, when updates are necessary.

[My office constantly stays hot, but I think that the heat from the monitors contributes to this.]
