Hold out on the wireless router...at my school there is technically only wifi in the common rooms/lounges, but it makes it to a big portion of the rooms in the dorm

Thats kind of a bad idea. What will happen when school is over? You could sell it, but you won't get all your money back. So you might end up fighting over it. Good luck with that
