I was planning to get one of these, not anymore. Not that there’s anything wrong with a product that isn’t announced yet, I just don't want to remember LeBron every time I use it.
Does that not say more about you than it does about him?
Lots of people I can't stand, Tim Cook and Steve Jobs for example but they don't remotely enter my head 999 times out of every thousand I use a Mac product. Might even be less often than that.

weird to see some people saying they won't buy them based on the fact that LeBron James is seen wearing them.

Not really weird, just the opposite side of the advertising coin.

If you hire CelebrityA to promote your product in hopes that DemographicB buys more of your product you will always need to consider that DemographicC won't buy your product based on their negative view of CelebrityA. The job of the advertising firm is to ensure that DemographicB is larger than DemographicC.

To your point though, basing your purchasing decision on celebrity advertising is indeed weird. Positive or negative. I would never buy a POS product just because a celeb I liked was promoting it nor would I ever skip on a great product because the celeb promoting it was a fool.

In terms of this product, I'll wait for release and the reviews.

I've heard of boycotting a product or company because the company or it's executives do something you don't agree with.

I don't think I've ever heard of people boycotting a product, because they saw someone they don't like using them.

Well. Maybe 6 year olds boycotting red juice boxes because the new kid has one and nobody likes the new kid. I'd expect them to mature beyond that by the time they get to High School.

So buying something because a likable star hawks it is mature but not buying it because you dislike the spokesperson is immature?

While I don't agree with making purchase decisions this way several members have posted in this thread that they have decided not to purchase based on the spokesperson. Did you miss those posts? Strong reaction but one they are entitled to.

Here are a couple of easily found examples of folks that threatened to boycott (making an active purchase decision) based on a spokesperson:

Again, this doesn't seem odd to me at all, if one accepts that a celebrity spokesperson can positively influence a purchasing decision in some consumers then one should also accept the possibility exists to negatively influence purchase decisions in other consumers with the same celebrity spokesperson, illogical as either influence may be.

Edited for a more relevant link.

No, not at all. It's ****ing stupid.

not buying it because you dislike the spokesperson is immature
If you want to consider any well known person using "X" as a spokesperson for "X", you go right ahead.

My point was that using or not using something because someone else or does not use it, whether they're paid to use it or not, is ****ing stupid.

I'm not sure what your point is unless you are of the opinion that Lebron James was really just handed an unreleased product, no strings attached? IMHO doubtful. There are most likely agreements for "promotion" (just being seen wearing them) in the background that are not public knowledge, which I would classify loosely as being a spokesperson of sorts for a product or brand. Your opinion may differ of course but once celebrities attain a certain level/status they are not just "seen" wearing anything that would have advertising value without compensation.

My point is that a "spokesperson" tends to... speak, on behalf of the thing they are a spokesperson for... that's why the first part of the word is "spoke".

What you're talking about are "product endorsements". He's paid to be seen using something.

Besides Beats, Lebron James also has an endorsement deal with Coca Cola.

Are you really telling me those people are going to not buy anything made by the Coca Cola company any more because he endorses their products?

Oh right but they didn't say they were going to boycott Beats, or the company that makes them: Apple.

They said they won't buy this one product because they saw a guy they don't like wearing them.

Well thats nuts.gif

I will agree with you that "spokesperson" perhaps by its most strict definition would be limited to a company official responsible for relaying important information can't we agree that a casual use could in fact include a paid endorser? The two links I provided took the same liberties with the definition.

What you're talking about are "product endorsements". He's paid to be seen using something.

If we are going to be literal a person cannot be a "product endorsement" that is an act they perform.

Are you really telling me those people are going to not buy anything made by the Coca Cola company any more because he endorses their products?

Hey, people that jaded exist. I think its dumb but they are entitled to their decisions.

i would not be surprised- about anything apple does behind their power agenda-- if you only new what they done to me---for 30 years i have bought music from them and purchased- hundreds of music and devises.. when they updated my computer to their latest update-- all of my playlist were changed, with their own names,-- they took songs off of them and had the rudeness to removed, to change and to scramble-- most of them-- of course i have no prove-- sense- none of my music was backed up--- so unbelievable-- i have been trying to find them all in my Toshiba extra hard drive so that i can file a class action lawsuit-- if hatred was in spirit i would hate them with all my soul-- oh thats not all-- they even took off pictures, that most of them was from my daughters wedding that it seems that they are gone and lost for ever--- sad--- shame on you apple-- i hope people will wake up to your power agenda and put you out of business forever---

I'll stick with my Flex. They're cheap, sound great and look better than buds. I also don't have to worry about multiple batteries.

But you DO gotta worry about the Flex getting tangled or ripped and having to replace the entire headset vs just loosing /replacing one bud. Over time I’m sure both will equal out in price as cost per ownership.

May I request Dan to review Beats Studio Pro versus Apple AirPods Pro (2019)? I love my Apple AirPods Pro and notice the substantial quality difference when I use my other EarBuds and earphones. So jelly LeBron already has them.
I notice substantial difference in favor of my Sennheiser Momentum 2's. Big time. ))

That just looks like a piece of white cotton sticking out of your ear. I can't live without my AirPods, but even they already look like Q-tips hanging from my ears.

It's made by Apple, what the hell, I'll just buy a set 😆

LOL, this is why I’m looking forward to the Beats Buds Pro or whatever they’ll be called if the design includes:
Force pinch like the AirPods Pro (seems it will),
Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos,
Ambient Voice (would be great for voice activation when spoken to ~ not sure how this works in a bus or subway commute though),
4hrs+ with ANC continous listening time or talk-time,
24hrs charge including the carrying case/charger.

I hate that any ear hair I have is SO noticeable to anyone that passes me or stands new me. And no I’m not burning my ears off using Neet or using a razor.

Is this a new marketing strategy by Apple in an attempt to create buzz and going viral? First they send products „early“ 2 days before the official release and now this. 🤔 my marketer mind is suspicious

You’re a marketer, probably well seasoned in the field. You’re an Apple fan, a member on these boards but not a sicophant.

Have you not wondered why,

- every few years there is a top source of business data source/trader or investigator with access to Apple’s suppliers (like Ming Chi Ko, Gurman) that always has THE most accurate information released or “reported” just 1-3mths before actual product announcement/release?!
- how some internet leaker (usually cycles every year) has most insane leaks of Apple products just weeks before an event or announcement? - last 12 months is Jon Prosser, prior to 2019/2020 it was someone else, etc etc.
- How NONE of the above (except since February outside of iPhones) never was really accurate in how such leaks really would look?!
- how Apple’s product announcement in an event is such incredible quality that seems to just blow away leaked information, sketches or early product blurry-cam pics?!

Apple pretty much INVENTED the whole schebang of ”leaks” how it works, how it gets cycled, how the whole conversation becomes a frenzy.

Of it all The past few decades Leaks have:
- NOT hurt product sales,
- NOT hurt Apple’s image as a brand nor the products 9.5x/10.
- have INCREASED brand name recognition,
- have consistently kept Apple as a company, brand etc on the lips and minds of even non-fans or product buyers of other brands when it comes to product categories that Apple is involved in
- How the cycle always begins a-new every product launch?

It’s Like a circus and we all love the spectacle of it all.
