I agree but I also need to get an mstand, MDP to HDMI cable and apple BT keyboard. I wanted to keep the total of these 4 items below £300 ideally, but I know it will be a good investment especially because I will be looking at it for at least 10 hours a day. (architecture student)

Have you any more reccomendations bearing in mind I want a good design,1920x1200 and not to exceed £300

Thank you

Have you tried searching for the specific model in a uk store comparable to newegg?

Yes I have briefly...

I found this which is around £250 but the contract is only 20000:1 http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/pc-peripherals/monitors/design/LS24TWHSUV/EN/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification

I'd love a 1920x1200 but they are too damn pricey! I may just buy an adapter for the one my Brother has and try his for a day. If the Applications work well I will get a 1920x1080, otherwise I will possibly wait until September when my student finance comes in (since there is now overtime at work :( )

Forget about comparing contrast ratios, the numbers are silly anyway.

If you can get a new T240 for £250 and want that resolution then get it. Otherwise you should look at the NEC EA231WMi and HP ZR24w. use something like Google's product search to find best prices in the UK.

Why is there such a big price jump between 1920x1080 and 1929x1200? The prices are at least twice the price! If there were monitors at 1920x1200 at £300 I would buy but the closest thing to that price are either big or just really ugly (at least what I've found so far)

Dynamic contrast ratio is pointless. Its only a marketing term. They had 2 42in led tvs at bestbuy 1 said 50,000 contrast ratio and the other said a million and both looked the same. an H243H has a 40,000 dynamic contrast with a 2ms response time but its a 24 in

The HP ZR24w seems to be quite good at around £320 and its S-IPS panel is going to much better than a TN panel for color accuracy and viewing angles right? I'm not so sure about the design though but I'll have to look on the net a bit more.

After a long few days of looking i am going to buy this for me, http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1154

It ticks all of the boxes for me. IPS, good colour reproduction, wall mountable, looks OK and has display port.
It is x1080 however I think I am just going to use my (future) mpb for photoshop palettes etc.
I dont think it will be a problem, certainly for the price.

Heres dells website ( this monitor is only a few months old) http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=320-9270

Tell me what you think, im not going to buy it for 3 weeks so warn me if you feel fit.

Thanks

I was looking at that monitor just a few minutes ago. If I wasn't put off by the 1080 I would have bought it. I'm also seeking advice from CAD forums and they highly reccomend at 1920x1200.

The search goes on... Keep us updated on your purchase !

I will if I buy it...
I'm about to finish my exams an have saved a lot off money up over the years. So going to buy a lot of goodies. First mac :)

However I cant seem to justify the huge price jump for that different screen format (16:10).

I know, the price jump is crazy for an extra 2 inches of height(?) but it makes all the difference apparantlet. I'm going tontry my brothers 1080 when I get my mac back and see what it's like.

Good luck with your exams, I was in the exact same place as you are 12 months ago. You will love your Mac! (which one are you buying?) are You at college or university (discount + HE AppleCare but I'm sure you already know about this )

Hmmm, I can imagine it would help a lot certainly with detailed programs ( photoshop..)

Im going to get the base 15" mpb, probably with the anti-glare screen. It will be great compared to my windows pc i built two years ago.

I will be using the college discount, as I will be going to a sixth form next year.
Thanks, I will tell you if I find a "perfect" monitor.

Hi I will be brief;
I have found these on ebuyer that may be intrest to you, they are all over x1080 and reasonalbly priced.
However i have not looked into them and if i was buying now I would go with the dell. However I am going to look into some of them.

Oh and for 26" I think there IS a draw back somewhere.

1,2 and 3 seem good for the price, however I'm not sure if the brand is of cheap or unreliable quality. Again the dell would be my choice but it's 16:9 and slightly bulky.

I know I'm being picky but I need to make sure Im 100% happy with what I get from both a design and technical perspective.

If I were to go for a 16:9 I would possibly look if Samsung had S-IPS Panels as these are far better than TN (and good design). Also depending on the price bracket and differences between a high quality 16:9 Vs a medium quality 16:10.

Thank you for looking into it for me ... Monitor searching is more than I thought but at least if you are thorough you learn about good panels and what goes into a good monitor as a future investment.

You're in a tight spot it seems, as your work really would benefit on a 16:10 monitor, and one with an IPS based panel at that IMO.

The problem is, the cheapest I can think of, is the HP LP2475w (cheapest UK price I located), but it's out of the budget you listed (which seems too small for the need really).

I'm looking at what I can sell :D I really want 16:10 IPS !

I hope you get it all sorted, and not dispense with something you truly need.

Good luck. :)

I don't need a 16:10 but it will make everything work better on screen in terms of toolbars etc. as there are many in ArchiCAD/CAD...

It might not seem like much, but that additional real-estate can make more of a difference than you might think.

16:9 with professional software can not only look odd, but make you scroll around more if you need to focus on details for example.

Just a thought anyway. ;)

Exactly my point... I could always wait until my next paycheck...
