isn't OS X 10.8 a old to old dock as in something which was there in the last OS X version, So how does a old version OS X suits you ? Just for the Dock ? Does it not prove a bit of hassle for you ?

It is better compared with OS X 10.9 Dock since it has a darker background for contrast..

Bottom - docks on the side don't seem to play well with multiple monitors. Autohide on if I'm doing work on my MBP without my display, off if I'm connected to the display as there's more than enough space!

Habitually at the bottom, but the left side makes sense. I've moved it to the left and will try it for a while. I usually keep it one notch or so up from small with no magnification. I keep my autocad toolbar to the left also, so I'll have to see if I'm taking too much real estate from the wide screen in autocad.

Also thanks for the reference to Cdock. I downloaded and it like it! Set to transparent background.

I went through this thread and agree with the argument of having the dock on the left or right side. I gave it a good try with the dock on the left side, but it just doesn't work for me. It actually takes me more time.

I use Spotlight to get any apps which works well, but I also use the dock to call up apps that I use all the time and I find it faster to do with the dock on the bottom.

I also suspect it's residual effects of being with Windows for decades. I'm trying out auto hide right now with the delay gone via terminal script. Seems to be okay so far.

Bottom and hidden. Same with the Windows taskbar frankly. I use keyboard shortcuts to move between my applications and to open new ones the majority of the time so no point in having it take up real estate.

Bottom and always visible.

I shudder at the thought of side mounted docks
It just feels so ...wrong and dirty (and not in a good way).

Except for the default side-dock in Ubuntu, I like that one, for some reason.

Now after reading your post, I am starting to want to try and put my dock on bottom&hidden.. :p

Mine is on the bottom and hidden like I've had it with all my Mac computers over the years. Having it on the left or right just seems wrong to me not to mention awkward. I also have it hidden as I don't like it taking up any precious real estate on my display.

I tried auto hiding with my dock on the bottom, but it didn't work for me on my 13". When I think about it, I really don't care if I lose screen "real estate" anymore. I like seeing my dock for some reason. It's all about personal preference I suppose. Simple as that.
