That's one of the problems on Swappa. I've sold 8 items but only have 5 feedback. People buy stuff and forget about the sale after they get the item. I've had to tell people to complete the sale and leave feedback.

I always try to acknowledge when people have been "good guys"/have really gone out of their way for me.
Always leave positive feedback on Amazon, for instance, if its deserved...as I did yesterday, for example when 2 reps both overnighted, at no charge, the new stuff I bought for the phone.
Will certainly do the same for Swappa seller
....and if he's a swindler - he won't be spared my publicly posted written wrath :)

Have you received it yet? Don't leave us all in suspense...

Ha ha ha + a deep breath and a long exhalation..... I'm thrilled to report:

it is the Real Deal, after all - both the sale transaction and the iPhone !
My leap of faith has been rewarded .......
Had I walked into my local Apple store to purchase the phone - it would not have been more genuine.

As I pulled the little green arrow/tab piece at the bottom of the wrap around the Apple box and it opened like a butterfly (well, not exactly...but it fluttered) your " origami " description breezed through my brain.....

Anyway....I count myself lucky. Very.
It could easily have been a sham offer.
Everyone's warnings are appreciated - and everyone's reassurances too

And my advice for anyone considering a Swappa purchase is: PROTECT YOURSELF
In my case - I knew AmEx would have my back if things went South (as I wrote in a prior post).
Plus - I purposely created a written record documenting all the Swappa chat answers to my questions with Seller + a Swappa rep.
Fortunately it looks like I won't have to avail myself of these precautions.

so....now that I've managed to wrap my mind around the pros and cons of risk and gamble, I've now got to manage to wrap my hand around my new gigantic, heavy XR and not drop the ball....I mean, the phone....

Glad it worked out for you. It is good that you asked here first, even though I thought the label was fake when it wasn't. Some other keen members saw better. MR can usually be counted upon to offer solid advice.

How much did you save?

$120 less than Apple store price for 64GB model, together with full 1 yr. Apple Warranty

(Both of which help me justify the splurge to myself - as I deal with my 2018 tax return and the gut kick from him-whose-name-I-do-not-utter)

Ok, for $120 saving i would of bought from Apple as i can claim Tax back. I would say seller got a good deal. Here they would of taken at least a $200 + loss.

I have no idea what you're talking about, Cladster . Furthermore....

1) Am not in competition with you...or anyone, for that matter
2) Am not in Australia (you mentioned AUD in your prior post...so assume that's where you might be)
3) You think I got a bum deal. And that I've been had. And that I'm a dupe. That's all fine
4) I'm delighted with this purchase:
I've been watching, tracking XR offers/sales both on e-bay and Swappa consistently since mid-November. Not once did I see a sale which bettered the one I got. Therefore, I believe the specifics of exactly what I snagged to be as good as it gets for this model.

Glad it worked out. You got the deal you wanted so don't worry about @Cladster. Some of us can't write off our phones as business expenses.

Enjoy your phone in good health!
Thanks
and Thanks
...a birthday (tomorrow) present to myself
( and - between you and me: my deal was better than his ;-) Don't want to hurt his ego though )

Meanwhile...for a few laughs - take a look at the iPhone-in-the-shower thread - and the total absurdity of what we've tumbled into becomes manifest. It's both hilarious and scary

What would "Steve" say?

Why?....Why?....Why?....Why?
How can original buyer buy from Apple at retail price then turn around and sell to you for less.

Don’t forget “The Hunt For Red Missing Pixel” thread. Can’t be seen missing without extraordinary efforts.

Calm down where did i say you got a bum deal etc, I wasn't having a go at you i did say I WOULD OF if you re read my post.

I stick to my comment as i buy and sell a lot of phones, here the seller would of taken a bigger loss than $120US or $160AUD, he did Ok.

Ditto.

Makes no sense.

Why didn't they just return it? They would have gotten all of their money back.

Bet it is stolen, but not yet reported. The thief probably grabbed an unattended bag, and the receipt was inside.

Suspicious that that Apple Store cooperated. They should NOT be giving out or confirming sale details to a third party.

If it is stolen goods, it will just be shortly disabled.

Exactly what I thought as I quaked in my boots thinking wtf have I done?
See posts 13, 18, 24 - or, more simply - he did a big Apple trade in at the Texas store where he bought it (it may have been for even more than 1 old iPhone (but not sure of that).
That's what the store told me after they located copy of his sales receipt on their system

....learn and live and learn and..... deals and steals....

One way is by gaming the current Giveback trade-in promotion.

Presumably, the program was meant to work like this -- trade in a phone, then buy a new one with the credit. One and done.

Only Apple didn't put enough rules in place to enforce that, and store personnel have been lax, so people have found some creative ways to "make" money, or effectively turn old phones into Apple currency.

OP's original purchaser might not necessarily have done that, but people have been successful acquiring new phones for little out of pocket, or at a substantial discount, by digging through drawers or buying used/refurbs on the cheap and then trading them in for more than they paid. Multiple times.
