If you've seen the size of typical Lego people before, then this image gives you a good idea of just how huge this thing is:

What no 3CPO or R2D2? :(

All I have left of one of these moon base lego sets is the base of the moon.

And I wish I never sold my rather largish Space Police Ship (2nd image).

:(

dejo - when you get, post here on how long it takes and where are you going to put it when its done. This isn't your usual lego set - I don't see you taking it all apart and putting it back in the box :D

The little kid inside me has woken up and is having a temper tantrum.
I want one!!!

Just imagine the box it comes in - 5000 pieces

One thing I want to see is the interior - the other one had it, I'm sure this one does too.

So we'll need pics of that as well :D

Ooooh, I'm liking that idea. :D Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to borrow that. ;)

go for it. actually before we moved in together my girlfriend saw what i did and then put a similar bowl in her apartment, but she wanted to match her flat's decor so she took just the white pieces from my set. :)

note that you can order pieces on lego.com by shape and color.

UPDATE: Just to let everyone know that DHL just dropped it off! The box itself is huge! I will probably even take pictures of the unboxing and post them, perhaps as an iWeb Gallery. I also am planning on setting up my camcorder to do time-lapse and will post the resulting video. I am dying to get started on this thing but unfortunately I have to work instead.

I should hope there's no "probably" about it! Start to finish is a must! ;)

I remember having lots of the space police sets, I think I had the moon base. But this was at least 12 years ago when I was 5 or so.

Too Funny!

My son is 8 and absolutely LOVES star wars and Legos.

We built the star destroyer which took us a good 20+ hours. I let him build the majority, I just helped find the pieces and do the sanity checking.

The Millenium Falcon looks very cool, I would also like to do the Death Star as well, but my house is already overloaded with these little bricks.

On a positive note, my son builds new stuff all the time. I never saw the money as a waste, since he plays with the legos more than anything else he has (except for maybe my iMac). It was a good Geek Dad project too.

We've built a bunch of the smaller star wars sets. One funny story, my son built the B-Wing fighter by himself. He was very proud of it. He ran up to me in the kitchen to show me and dropped it after spending the last 4 hours building it. Needless to say, legos and tile floors don't mix and the thing re-kitted itself pretty quickly. I think it was his first "I can't believe I just did that" moment.

Good stuff, I'll have to show him your progress.

Thanks,

Mike...

DAY ONE of the build

[I've reset the day clock. Day One is now the first day of build with Day Zero being the day of unboxing and sorting and prep.]

I spent about 5 hours in the afternoon (work wasn't distracting me) and made it through Steps 1-53 (to page 71) of the HUGE, spiral-bound instruction book.

LEGO Millennium Falcon Build: Day One

(I've set up my camcorder to do some time-lapse video but I won't post that until the process is complete.)

I probably won't get this done as quick as some of you might like, one reason being I have friends with an eight-year-old boy, who's also a LEGO fan, and I've invited him to come help me but he can't make it until Friday or Saturday and I'd like to have something left for him to do when he finally gets here.

Ahh man this is soo awesome I remember getting some of the original Star Wars legos when I was like 9 or so I remember the ATT was my favorite one until I got the original B-wing that thing was awesome....I like the looks of the newer B-wing too (glad they are starting to remake some of these they are really cool). Man I feel like a geek lol.

My little brother (11 years old at the time) put together the star destroyer which has 3,200 pieces in 16 hours. That's what happens when your little brother is border-line genius.

Prof. :apple:

DAY TWO of the build

Yesterday, I was able to put in around 3-4 hours on the build. The first phase was building seven duplicate landing gear. The next phase was putting together the curved bar that goes around the back and includes the propulsion system. The final phase was building the "V"s that jut from the front.

LEGO Millennium Falcon Build: Day Two

Man, it really helps to have the pieces sorted and readily available on a nearby table. I think I used almost all the tupperware in the house as well as a couple of aluminum trays for the large amount of flat, light-grey pieces. Still, the system is not perfect. Not every style of piece has its own container and so, often, I am having to root through a container looking for a particular piece, sometimes resorting to dumping into a larger container in order to see the pieces better. But I feel it's working very well, most of the time. It's almost as if I'm putting together the world's largest, plastic recipe!

FOOTNOTE: I may just not be seeing the piece in my sorted section (oh Lord, I've looked though) but I believe the set may be missing a piece. And, surprisingly, I don't have that piece already in my existing LEGO collection, to use temporarily. I'll be putting in a call to LEGO Customer Service to get a replacement. And I'm able to continue on without the piece.

Actually two years ago these were $50 at Toys R Us for the Black Friday sale. I picked up 5...still have two or three I think.

Check the set number on that one. If it's the 7190 kit it was discontinued and replaced with the 4504. The 7190 retailed for $100 and currently sells for around $200 on sites like BrickLink.

They should do a huge Deathstar too!

They did.

I started collecting the kits when I first moved to TX. I had most of the sets they had come out with. Purchasing slowed when I met my wife and had kids. I'm currently in the process of selling everything not from the Ultimate Collector's Series. I have the Star Destroyer and AT-ST for currently available ones and the discontinued X-Wing, Y-Wing, Tie Interceptor, Blockade Runner, Yoda, Snow Speeder and Naboo Fighter.

If my sales go well enough I'll sell the older discontinued kits for enough to get the Death Star, Vader's Tie, and the Millenium Falcon.

Thanks to collectors and most of my kits being discontinued most of my kits will sell for more than I bought them. The Collector's Series hold their value well and even opened/assembled ones sell for more than retail once discontinued (provided they weren't taken apart and assembled many times).

If anyone is interested in which kits I have going for sale I PM me.

I'd love to see one of these things in person. As much as I love Lego, I don't have the budget or the patience to assemble one of these things. I also don't have the room or patience for what inevitably would be a dust magnet.

Thanks for sharing the link. I grew up on Star Wars, being 10 years old the summer it was released, so the MF brings back good memories.
