Sara Lane on the other hand boils my blood. I skip every single episode that has her and M.G Seigler together. Because she always starts revealing too much about their relationship when no one really cares. At least Tom and Eileen stay professional when they're both on camera.

Sara Lane is very Moody at times. She overall seems like a nice person but I can not stand to hear her talk or Brian Brushwood. This is personal taste nothing against them as professionals. We all have people who annoy us. Lol

Same with Walt Mossberg.

I don't think anyone has a review unit until this thing has been announced.

I have a feeling he might have a review unit already, since last week he basically posted nothing at all..

He's been talking about it on the Talk Show though. (http://5by5.tv/talkshow/81)

I think mostly it's because there's nothing new to talk about. An iPad with upgraded cameras, a retina display, and possible LTE support has been talked about for months.

Really there aren't any current rumors worth talking about, just people throwing out crazy things for attention (It'll be more expensive! Oh wait no it won't! No home button! Home button confirmed!...)

I think certain people have had one for almost a week.

i don't enjoy his shows much, and i haven't ever found him terribly informative in the sense of digging up new information. like other shows on twit, he is commenting on news reports already out there, so i don't know how much stock to put in any claims about availability from him.

They have not done this before they announced a product? iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPad, or iPad 2. Why would they start now?

I think Apple can not risk losing a unreleased product again so there is no reason to do this. The demand for this product will overwhelm the supply for a while.

I dont necessarily think him being an Android fanboy to be a bad thing. Everyone has the right to have their own preferences. But he does contradict himself. You can constantly see him berating Apple yet he buys everything they make.

Thats what I like about him, there is nothing wrong with loving and hating Apple all at the same time. I've got the same relationship with the company.

I think so too. It's been more than a week. He was all over Josh Topolsky last year for saying there's going to be a retina display in the iPad 2.
http://daringfireball.net/2011/01/cold_water_ipad_retina_display

Now he has nothing to say at all about anything iPad 3 related. The invite has mystified the internet into thinking there's no home button, there's a retina display, something about touch, the darker back casing, etc but all he has to say about it is "sounds like something Steve Jobs would say".

Dude has an iPad 3 right now for sure.

The Press will get review units on the 7th at the event. They use the iPad 3 for a week and release reviews on Thursday March 15th. The iPad 3 launches on Friday the 16th with the first round of pre-orders also being delivered on the same day. Leo is wrong if he said its coming this week.

But he says for three episodes the galaxy tab is better than the iPad then say its not very good. People take his word then he pulls a 180 in a short period of time. I don't agree with go back on your world constantly.

I listen to a bunch of the Twit shows regularly and I can't say I recall him outright saying the Galaxy Tab was better. Maybe he said some aspects of the galaxy tab were better (which wouldn't be a lie).

Well when the 10" came out he said it was and was his favorite device. But he does this all the time. Even Dvorak calls him out on it.

But for conversation what aspects were better?

I believe some people had the iPhone 4S before it was announced.

Nope not even Walt Mossberg got a 4s before Oct 4th. No one outside Apple gets a pre-annoucement product except for certain developers who are asked to develop for it. Even then they are in locked cases in closed off rooms. If you don't believe me research it. They don't need too.

Says the ipad3 will be available on friday and same price as ipad2. Hope he right and he usually is.

I don't keep score but it seems his is more wrong than right on Apple predictions. If would be fantastic if the iPad was on sale on Friday, but Leo's rationale is that it has to b/c iPad 2 sales are going to drop dead.

My question to this is, when has this type of thing every led apple to not finesse a product launch? You could say the same thing about every iPhone after the original. All of those launches were at least a week after the announcement. Same goes for last year's iPad 2.

Also Tim Cook, as COO, and now CEO has an excellent command of Apple's inventory supply chain. Apple has is so regulated that it never has more than 4 weeks stock of any item. When Apple is near launch point it slows or stops production to manage stock. It's been over a decade since Apple's had a glut of inventory of any particular item because of this monitoring.

I'm positive Apple has already accounted for lost iPad 2 sales between Wed and whenever the launch is (I still think the 16th). These sales will more than be made up when the iPad 3 goes on sale. So what does Apple have to gain by putting the iPad 3 on sale this Friday vs. Next? Usually Apple likes a week to gin up the PR hype machine.

So I think Leo is wrong here. I hope I'm the one wrong instead, but facts don't bear that out.

It makes sense to give trusted media outlets preview units now, if they plan on immediate availability, or otherwise there is not enough time for the reviews to come out in order to build launch hype.

I'm with you on this - look at last year, Apple slashed ipad1 prices by $100 as of the ipad2 announcement. So it's not like they were sitting there trying to sell full price ipad1's with the ipad2's in the media.

As other have noted, I expect Apple needs to give landlords a certain notice for handling crowd control on launch day. I'd be surprised if they could do this for a Friday 3/9 launch starting two days ahead or keeping everyone quiet if they've already notified landlords.

Big question is whether they will or won't do preorders. You could say that preorders might create longer lines. Allocate a certain stock to preorders and have delivery estimates ramp up to three or four weeks post launch within a day of preorders starting. Now everyone else has several days to arrange their schedules so they can go camp out / stand on line.

I'm an avid TWiT network fan and the person you should be listening to is Andy Inhatko. He usually speculates very little and is generally well rounded with the rumor news.
Eww... I do enjoy Inhatko's humor but I hesitate on recommending him as a "trusted source" for anything and my distrust towards Ihnatko is something that i feel for all Mac journalists because Apple has a way of indirectly threatening them by blacklisting or shunning from key events. If you dont write a good story then someone else will. I dont blame journalists or Apple for falling in line the way they have, but in terms of trusted quality journalism then its tough to find good ones when it comes to Apple.

I still do read their articles though but the only ones I really "trust" nowadays is the verge.

Well then you can put Inhatko on your trusted list now b/c apparently he was "blacklisted" from the iPad3 event. No invite for him, at least according to one of his tweets this weekend. Maybe it was his association w/ TWiT. I sure hope not. BTW I don't think there are any "balanced" tech writers. They are all tend to prefer one company's products over another, just like those who follow their coverage.

Weird, right? Leo said that on iPad weekly also. Thats odd because Ihnatko wasn't invited to the Mountain Lion briefings and now the iPad 3 launch? He's a very funny writer and is definitely on "Apple's Team" so IF they are shunning him simply because of TWiT then that's crazy. Especially since Leo is also a very diehard Apple user and his minor "mistake" was years ago.

BTW. It seems like I slam on Mac journalists but I do appreciate any form of Mac writing because even skewed news is better than no news.

This.

Is why we will see the iPad shown Wednesday along with a new Apple TV and IOS 5.1

Apple TV available Friday online and in local stores. iPad pre-order Friday with delivery March 16th.

On sale March 16th with the release of IOS March 16th.

The pre-ordered iPads that are delivered March 16th will have IOS 5.1 on them already.

I sure hope you're right as I would much rather order online this time around.

That's nuts. Reviews don't build media hype.
