As SL is really a refinement of Leopard, as opposed to a dramatic change, will there be apps that only work for SL and not Leopard as time goes on?

I know quicktime x is SL only but is there any reason that made it this way?

It was re-written in Cocoa, for one. And, to be a 64-bit app - it had to be Cocoa. So, there's also a new API. I imagine, as time goes by, there will be some apps/features that use the new API. At that point, an app would become 10.6 or later.

There's a very good breakdown of QT-X in the ArsTechnica review: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard: the Ars Technica review After reading it, you'll see Snow Leopard is a much more dramatic change than what's seen on the surface.
