Leopard dock

Hey all if this old i am sorry...i jus got a new Mac Book Pro
10.5.3(Leopard)
& i am trying to move things around on my dock & whn i try to add icons it wont let me...this might be old but like i said i jus got it..
can anyone help??

Make sure you are trying to add applications to the left of the separator, and folders/documents to the right.

Drag it to at the bottom of the screen so that other icons moves away leaving space for that.
