Thanks for the tips! Upgrading the Mac Pro I received the blue screen. I had changed to the Logitech mouse earlier. It worked great after the commands in terminal. Earlier in the week I had installed Leopard on the G5 at home with no problems.

Thanks Again!
Michael

Shoulda, coulda woulda. I upgraded last week and got too excited. I didn't check the forums or do a full back-up. I didn't fix the application enhancer problem before the install, and the fix after install didn't work on my G4. I had to completely start from scratch, so I lost all of my programs and data. I was able to recover most of it, but it's been a pain.

The dock in Leopard seems a bit buggy, and I'm not sure what to do about that, but other than that I like Leopard better. I suspect that some of my programs are not yet Leopard compatible and tripping up the system somewhere.

Carry this message forth far and wide, when you're about to make a major change to your OS, you absolutely must do a backup.

Sorry you lost your data, that's just brutal.

It was a great lesson!!! Plus in my search for CDs of all my programs and serial numbers, I found my passport which was missing for 9 months. It was about the only thing filed in my "computer" file folder.

My friends have asked what I think of Leopard, and I tell all of them - back it up!!! Check the forums for known issues!!!

Now I hope the dock issue gets resolved in Leopard.

But, this isn't just a Leopard issue it's a computer issue. Whenever you start screwing around with major portions of the system, you should be backing up, regardless of whether it's Tiger, Leopard, Vista, or Ubuntu.

What if I Can't Reboot My Mini at All???

Hi all,

I'm new to this, so please bear with me.
I read a lot of posts over the past three days after having my
Intel Mini lock me out after installing Leopard and the 10.5.1
update.
I tried to start the Mini in Target mode, connected via Firewire to my iBook
G4 (Leopard installed) and it didn't work.
I tried starting the Mini holding down Command-S and it didn't work.
Tried starting the Mini holding down C with the OS disk in the computer
and it didn't work. What do I do now?
I always get the same password screen, then the "filevault did not open"
crap, then it tells me I can't log in because an error has occurred.
What am I doing wrong?
Does it matter that I'm using a Kensington keyboard?

thanks for the help. This is driving me nuts!!:(

i'm sorry my friend but i've done exactly what you have said 4 times and it doesn't work, and each of the times it got a different answer. I don't remember what they are but it refuses to work.

You are a genius... I was on the verge of crying because my computer would not start up. But thanks to you I was able to start my computer and completely get rid of anything unsanity... Thank you so much :D

Cannot delete file

please help! I CANNOT delete com.unsanity.ape.plist. I am in write mode under single user and didn't have any problems deleting any of the other files but I can't delete this one. I tried repairing permissions by to no avail. I tried sudo, that didn't work either. I can't find any way to change the permissions on this file so I can delete it. The permissions are rw-r--r. What can I do? Thanks in advance for your help.

nevermind. I just tried again and got it deleted. I'm reinstalling now. I have my doubts that its going to work, but I will let you know

this works!

it seems that ApplicationEnhancer/ShapeShifter might be causing this so if you can, remove these programs before upgrading.

original instructions:

1. Reboot into single-user mode (hold Cmd-S while booting machine)
2. Follow the directions OSX gives you when you get to the prompt (I think these were them - just type the two commands it tells you to):
fsck -fy /
/sbin/mount -uw /
3. Remove the following files:
rm -rf /Library/Preference Panes/Application Enhancer.prefpane
rm -rf /Library/Frameworks/Application Enhancer.framework
rm -rf /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Application Enhancer.bundle
rm -rf /Library/Preferences/com.unsanity.ape.plist
4. Exit, to continue booting normally
exit
restart

NOTE: some of the paths are different, mine were as follows:

1. Reboot into single-user mode (hold Cmd-S while booting machine)
2. Follow the directions OSX gives you when you get to the prompt (I think these were them - just type the two commands it tells you to):
fsck -fy /
/sbin/mount -uw /
3. Remove the following files:
rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/Application Enhancer.prefpane
rm -rf /Library/Frameworks/Application Enhancer.framework
rm -rf /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/Application Enhancer.bundle
rm -rf /Library/Preferences/com.unsanity.ape.plist
4. Exit, to continue booting normally
exit
restart

for those of you not familiar with the command line in order to enter these paths begin typing the line of text and hit Tab to have it complete the current folder name (up to the next /). if you it Tab twice it will tell you the options that are available. Ideally you should be typing in enough of the line that it's the only option to "auto complete" when you hit Tab.

my system is a G4 1.42 mini, 1GB RAM. I attempted an Upgrade.

Hey man, i just want to say thank you very much for your help. I was extremely nervous when this happened. Thanks so much!

For those of you that cant get it to work:
make sure you use the tab method he describes; it seems as if everyone's path is a bit different and the tab method makes it work perfect.

I serioustly need help

Hey

I made the terrible mistake of installing menufela and now I can't boot my computer...
I have tried several times deleting files from single user but still can't boot it

what can I do?
have I done something wrong?
can I reinstall my OS without losing my files?

Yes you can reinstall the OS without losing your files. You need to select the Archive and Install option within the Installer. I'm not exactly sure how to do that so look into it before you try it.

Side note: It's nice to see that you used the search function, but in this case a new thread would have been permitted as this thread is about two years old.
