Here's the specs on my iBook G4:

933 MHz PowerPC G4
640 MB DDR SDRAM

Or should I just go to Tiger? Is that Ram in this further upgradeable?

I am currently running Panther. I cry when I turn on my system :(

Haha

eBay it and buy a new machine. It's not worth dropping another $129 on such an old machine. You need at least a gig of RAM to even consider being productive.

Who is running Leopard on a G4 with around 1Ghz and 1Gb ram? Is it better to stick with Tiger?

i have a 12" powerbook, and i like leopard for the mere fact that i have the option to 2 finger right click. that makes it worth it for me, but not i'm not sure you have the option with your ibook. i think if you can 2 finger scroll you, you'll have the option.

And performance wise? is it fine?

I don't have built-in 2 finger scroll, I use iScroll to fake it.

oh i'm sorry... it's runs just fine. pretty snappy. i have also have a mbp, and i still use my pb 90% of the time. i'm using my pb right now to type. however, i am a light computer user. all i use it for is the internet, word processing and managing itunes.

i also put leopard on my 1.25ghz imac g4 with 1.25 gb of ram and it runs pretty nicely albeit it runs better on the pb. i came from tiger and i am happy with leopard on both my g4s.

I just noticed your sig, hmm I guess I'll have to find some ram for my iBook then I'll be fine for Leopard. Thanks for your point of view :)

I have an iBook G4 with 768 MB ram and it runs Leopard fine. I don't think Leopard is really much more memory intensive than the previous OSes. It does take up quite a bit more HD space, though, so if your HD is getting full, that might be a bigger problem.

Interesting thread...

Have a 1.25GHZ Emac with 1gb of ram that I upgraded from tiger to leopard. Its noticiably slower in most areas.

Also have an I-Book 1GHZ with 1.25Gb of ram which I've just upgraded from panther to Tiger and its a flying machine. I did think about going to Leopard but my experience with the Emac put me off.

I have an aging iBook (1.33gHz G4, 1GB RAM) and I'm wondering if I should even bother upgrading to Leopard. I guess I should wait to see what other people's experiences are, but I'm just curious. Will Leopard take up too much of my poor iBook's resources? I don't even want to buy it if it's going to run much slower than Tiger.

I have an ibook with 512mb ram and 1.33ghz processor, i went ahead with installing leopard but it took up 9gb of hard drive space and it has slowed my computer down a lot. It can't play youtube videos anymore because it lags too much so i'm not sure if its a good idea, does anyone know how i can uninstall it, keeping my files at the same time? - i haven't got any recovery disks though :(
