8-cores tomorrow, Leopard announcement exactly 30 days later at NAB.

I was thinking more like 8-cores tomorrow shipping around NAB with Leopard pre-installed, If we are lucky. and all of the top secret features shown at NAB or an event sometime before

that's a thought, however i dont' think that has ever happened...that would certainly catch everyone off guard, wouldn't it?

There won't be leopard tomorrow... but perhapse a quiet hardware update tomorrow.:D

I just noticed another WWDC email is anyone else noticing they all have a leopard print somewhere?

Leopard WWDC07 I'm 100% convinced.

I still have my money on WWDC 2007 (June 11-15) for Leopard's final release date (along with the release of iPhone and some other cool goodies). Granted, that is a bit late to be considered "spring."

Although, assuming iLife and iWork are released at the same time (which I'm sure they will be), one of two things will have to happen...

1) The release date for iLife & iWork will forever be changed to June (instead of MacWorld). or...

2) iLife & iWork are bundled with Leopard (for possibly $200).

...There's no way anybody's going to pay $70/piece for software that will be outdated in 6 months. Even a release date as late as April or May is pushing it.

More rumors...

DAMN! I must have posted this to the wrong site. I thought rumors were expected fare here...

Before these submissions, I would agree with you 100%. I was really thinking that WWDC was going to be catalyst as well. It may still be, as this is only a page2 rumor. But with the reports coming in and corroborating each other, we had to post it somewhere.

Gotta love page2.

We're still on with the rumors? Watch this thread be a 10+ pages long, talking about plain rumors.
I hope I have to swallow my words and see a late April release - it'd be nice.
But I'm ready to wait 'till June.
Still ambivalent about these rumors...

I'm guessing it'll be previewed at WWDC with a release date later that month.

I'm hoping they'll surprise me with an earlier release, though.

Technically speaking, they don't have much room to do that. "Spring" ends June 21 (one week after WWDC).

Of course, in reality they can do whatever they want.

Just a thought, but wouldn't it seem more prudent to release it pre-wwdc07? That way they would have had time to play with the release candidate. Especially since there are going to be a lot of Leopard specific classes?

Not that it matters much, but i just bought an iMac for my parents, and set it up for them and no "update to leopard" certificates inside.

That's not surprising! Apple has almost never included upgrade certificates until after a final release date has been announced.

The rumor now is that Mac Pro will go Octo soon. My guess is that when it does, the final release date will be announced for Leopard and upgrade certificates will be included for Leopard and iLife 07.

if leopard were going to be mid-april then OS X would have to go GM in the next few days. in other words not going to happen. if leopard were going to be released late april then apple would need to be seeding release candidate 1 in the next week or so and hope it's way less buggy than the last seed.

leopard won't be out until late may at the earliest. stop setting yourselves up for disappointment.

Technically speaking, spring is until June 21st and therefore any release up to and including that date is still spring and not late.

Tiger is fine for me and stable. Maybe I will look into Leopard when it becomes stable around 10.5.4 or so.

Yes, I realize that, and actually had that fact written in my original post, but took it out at the last minute to simplify.

What I meant was, most people don't consider mid to late June spring (even though it is).

They could always just delay it 'til "Summer."

That would suck, but they could do that if they see that it's not gonna be ready for release in the Spring.

Makes sense to me. It does seem like Apple is slowly beginning to release betas faster and faster which usually means they're making good progress that needs testing more and more.

Bring it on baby!!!!

every OS update e.g. 10.0> X.1>X.2 etc seems like :apple releases seeds more quickly when getting close to GM aka 'Gold Master' aka Public Release

And i'll be buying (3) single user OS versions ;) :D

so true dejo, the spring time issue.. But :apple: has been saying 'Mid-Spring' but changed it to "Late Spring" .. So i'm hopeful that Mid to Late April Launch date rumor is true .. :D

With regard to the 'serious bugs' still in the developer previews, some have mentioned that internal builds tend to be a month or two ahead.

What if it's not even that?

What if the serious bugs are still there on the external builds on purpose because the fix is tied to some of the new features? (For whatever reason.)

For example, if there are serious window drawing bugs, maybe they're because the window drawing code is tied to the rumored new look. Pushing out the 'fixed' code would involve revealing the new look early. And, unfortunately, developer leak like a sieve. Every new build has screenshots up within an hour. So Apple is withholding these important fixes because THEY want to be the ones to reveal.

Note for disclosure: I am a registered developer, but without access to OS betas, so I have no inside knowledge.

WWDC

1. You shouldn't want it sooner because there are bugs still. This isn't rumor, it is fact. Yes, they likely have a more recent version in house but these bugs are out on many different types of systems. I'm pretty sure they will want to test at least some fixes to some major bugs before going GM.

2. 10.4.9 is not released yet and I highly doubt, can't remember if Apple has EVER released a newer version at the same time as the .9 version. I can see 10.4.9 released in a few days or weeks. Then a month or two between and announce at WWDC along with the snazy new iPhone so you can show off all the cool features again.

3. Typically, Apple makes the .9 version the latest version they support and works with all updated software they make (i.e. the majority of Apple software requires 10.3.9 or higher).

4. WHY announce along side CS3? This makes NO sense except for those of you who have no business sense. CS3 is going to be big for Apple and many NON apple people. Why share some of the spot light with Adobe? You want them as a partner, sure, but you don't want them hogging your press (or worse, vice versa because you are hoping it will drive hardware sales of 10.4 systems). This is pure FUD. It makes absolute 100% no sense. NOT going to happen.

5. As it has been said, June is still Spring. They didn't promise March or April, only Spring. Anything before June 21 is spring. And if iPhil's info above my post is correct, then late spring makes even more sense.
