For me personally, I think when Face ID doesn't work for me, is when I'm not truly looking at the screen properly.
In other words, human error, versus the device...

Never had issues with finger print being slightly off. Your issue is a device issue, not human error.

Mine always works except when I’m using the phone at an angle where it wouldn’t work anyways. Like when I’m laying in bed and have the phone laying flat next to me, it obviously can’t see my face all the way to the side or so close to the screen

When I first got it, it worked about %50 of the time. Now it is getting better. I was having issues unlocking especially when I was lying down. Now it's starting improve.

So it unlocks about 85% of the time now. Still not as good as touch ID. But hopefully it gets there.

I still hate the fact that I have to slide up when I unlock. On my galaxy s8 it would just go straight to the home screen. No swipe needed. I hope gives that option the future.

I can honestly say it’s working every time. I moved very slow when setting it up. For me it isn’t slower than TouchID. Only when the phone is on the table, I miss TouchID. If your phone is far away you can’t open it with FaceID. So I can say it opens every time when used correctly.
Btw, everyone who voted under 69%, doesn’t own the X. ;)

works everytime when near my face. Just certain angles on the table where it won't but i often pick it up anyway

I own this phone I paid good money for it. It's mine. II am its master. t serves me. Not the other way around.

Whats all this BS that I gotta stare at it the right way?

The only rule here is that its gotta serve me properly....or it could be replaced.

Thats why I never set up face id...and never will.

It's works really well - sure it might miss now and than, but so did touchid

I don’t know if I’m learning it or it’s learning me, probably a bit of both, but it has improved since I first got it. Not sure if it’s just placebo but it feels like the success rate of it unlocking flat on the table has the most notable improvement. Still not perfect but I’m missing Touch ID less and less.

I have my iPhone X since Friday. So far, FaceID is working almost like magic. I come from an iPhone 6 (so first generation fingerprint reader) and it has already worked in much more situations than TouchID. I also live in a cold, rainy place (unfortunately) and either wet fingers or gloves were often hindering TouchID while they don't create any issue with FaceID.

What I really like is the learning ability. Every time there is a false negative I insert the code and most of the times, if I try again from the same position later, it now recognises me without issues.

Another great advantage is for apps with an additional biometric recognition layer (like 1Password): moving back and forth without having to place the finger on the home button every time is great.

If i'm laying on my bed on the pillow with my chin down with my head elevated it will fail depending on how I hold the phone if I type my password in halfway it will unlock by faceID

works for me almost 100% of the time but when riding my Harley & I want to check a text at a light, it of course work work with my helmet on.

I agree. Unlocking the phone can be a bit more difficult at times than TouchID, but the real advantage of FaceID is when you are actively using your phone and are able to log into different apps without doing a thing.

I'm in the 80% maybe higher, but I had to turn the attention aware stuff and that helped. I also needed to re-do my faceid, that seemed to help as well (doing it in a dark room, being sure to look at the sensor the whole time).

I had way more failures with touch ID than now with face ID (less than a handful of times it hasn't worked on the first try). I'll take face ID all day every day now. No qualms with it from me.

There is no need to “stare at it the right way”. Especially with attention required off.

Of course you would not know that if you have not set it up because instead you are just imagining how it works.

Not sure what point of your post is. How did you vote in poll, since you have never even set it up?

My X serves me very well with Face ID activitated. Your phone does not have feelings so who cares if you replace it?

Uncheck the box “Require attention for face”.

Of course I'll be honest, why wouldn't I? I'm a big boy, I can even put on my own pants :D If this device didn't satisfy my expectations, I wouldn't post otherwise, I'd buy something else :)

So with that preface: I'm a good solid 95%+, and I'm getting slightly better accuracy vs. TouchID.
