For me personally, I think when Face ID doesn't work for me, is when I'm not truly looking at the screen properly.

Never had issues with finger print being slightly off. Your issue is a device issue, not human error.
If I turned off the 'Require Attention', I bet it would work even better, i.e. close to 99.9%.
Didn’t work when I was yawning. Another time when I was in bed with my face partially covered by a pillow.
Other than that it’s been working.

Another great advantage is for apps with an additional biometric recognition layer (like 1Password): moving back and forth without having to place the finger on the home button every time is great.
