Honestly, stop it with these threads, 3.0 JUST came out (read: Australia) and people are already wanting 4.0?

Seriously, no give it a rest.

This thread is for those people who are not getting the iPhone 3G S and are holding off for the next iPhone, yes? Thank you.

so the thread is for people who don't have the iphone? everyone gets iphone 3.0 tomorrow. your thread is about the OS, not the hardware.

i agree with the poster you replied to, this topic is too premature...unless you want to discus the flavor of soft service ice cream the iphone 2050 can produce....LOL

BLUETOOTH FILE TRANSFER!
No excuse now as iTunes is completely DRM free now. Plus almost every other phone has this feature.

I'd like to see more information shown on the lock screen. I've seen images of jailbroken phones that show emails, weather forcasts, rss feeds, etc and i think this is a must for next OS from Apple. There is so much wasted space on the lock screen that does nothing but show your wall paper.

I'd like emails to pop up like SMS do, just a quick show of who it's from and the subject.

You are my best friend.:p

This is the thing that I am going to miss the most once I update to 3.0, I have my calendar on my lockscreen and its great to check my work schedule on instead of going all the way into the calendar app.

I would like for them to change the pop-up notification style to a less intrusive style, such as the way the "tap to return to call", "internet tethering" and "voice recording" notifications appear from under the status bar.

Most likely wishful thinking, but it would be much more elegant than the pop-ups!

I would like to see the iPhone with a new external design (so over the glossy plastic back), bluetooth (the one that allows the sending and receiving of files), a better camera (one with zoom, and a flash), an OS that doesnt crash, an OLED screen (expensive, but you get what you pay for) and have a battery that I dont have to recharge every night.

How about different versions - like a rubberized waterproof one for people who work outside, a shiney silvery one for execs, yellow one that floats for people who work on boats, a furry one for kids who are still into fluffy toys etc...:D

Sync over Wifi
Ability to change alert tones (the ones preinstalled suck) without hack/jailbreak
FLASH - FLASH - FLASH !!!!!!!!

but if none happen ill still love my iphone and never give it up !

forget about 4.0 - i'm wondering what apple will give us in terms of 3.x updates. i think they will have to deal with notifications in the in term. all the beeps and badges will become hard to deal with and they'll come up with an elegant solution as they always do.

for 4.0 - i hope they give us some info on the unlock screen. but apple always seems to find a way to give us something we never thought of - like the tap to focus. how long do you think it will take camera manufactures to copy this feature - and why hasn’t anyone else thought of it - its brilliant - way to go apple! they just completely changed the camera UI as we know it.

why will you miss it - they already have 3.0 jailbroken.

I'm pretty sure it's as easy as moving your finger an inch across a screen to see more information.

Background/True Multitasking

In re: Background/True Multitasking on the "whiners" (both pro & against), everyone does realize that this is an EVENTUALITY? Right? So those who are so "against" it, might as well prepare for the future.

My proposed solution isn't Spaces (I abhor Spaces on Leopard, hate it), but Expose. To me, this makes the most sense on the iPhone platform to iconically and metaphorically represent tasks in a touchscreen environment. Spaces doesn't make sense b/c it's about app or space organization, where as Expose has *always* been about app *management*.

So, I'm going out on a limb here, in the EVENTUALITY that Apple introduces Backgrounding/True Multitasking I bet it will be visually represented in iPhone's version of Expose. I'm putting my money down on that. :p

Finally to those who are "pooh-poohing" the idea of Background Apps b/c it only benefits music apps? Wouldn't be nice to have MORE THAN ONE EMAIL OPEN? That's just one of many.

Long Shot Feature?
Custom Shortcut Gestures. I'd love to be able to create a custom gesture that I can use at any time to launch a particular app or do a particular task. Yes, even when the screen is in "locked mode." Heck, lets' go further than that: why type a passcode to "unlock" the phone, when it would be more intuitive to custom create a unique gesture to unlock the phone. The benefits? You can do it blindly & you are not restricted to a 4 digit code.
