Did he REALLY say 400-600 dollars? Thank you for that. Now I know never to listen to anything that he says ever again.

Oh, and when are the new MacBooks coming out?

Seriously, if you don't like them, don't read them. No one will stop.

I can't answer for someone else, but I think people wouldn't say much, they'd go and buy, and then post here ;).

I think the MacBooks would literally fly off the shelves if they were 400-600 dollars cheaper. ;)

$599-$799 base MacBook would be very nice. :D

You should do the same with the notion of a $400-600 cheaper MB. Apple would be selling below cost.

I'll be ecstatic right along with the rest of you. If you go back through some of my more recent points, you'll see why it's best to be a pessimist in the area of Apple rumors.

And I would like to see you be that at least once. You always sound so "serious" in your posts.

I just try not to get people's hopes up simply for them to be dashed. I have no idea how Apple could sell MacBooks for that price, but if they did, we'd have 55% laptop marketshare within a year.

and lets not forget: possible viruses/threats for Macs with that kind of market share.
I am trying to be realistic too. :(

As for how Apple could sell MacBooks for that price, I am sure Apple could pull through no matter what. ;)

If you look at HP's with similar components, a price drop of $400 (on the low-end MB) or $600 (on the higher-end), you would realize such price drops would actually put Apple right in line with the competition. Either some serious price drops, or some serious spec increases (like dedicated graphics, more screen sizes, and a superdrive in the low-end) are desperately needed. The Macbooks are currently priced like medium-to-high-end PC's, and yet have the specs of low-end ones (albeit with faster processors, which are way more powerful than most users need).

If you look at cheap laptops and their components, you'll see they're too cheap. I don't argue that Macs aren't overpriced right now - they're, but not so much as you want to believe. Also I can't see how MacBooks would be close to low-end notebooks - unless you don't consider some that exist at lowest end at all. PC manufacturers competing in price reduce their cost as far as they can and their margins are still dangerously small. Apple isn't going to drain itself in such way. They're making profit even with their current lines.
