Yeah, I was really pissed off when they told me they probably wouldn't even exchange it (much less return it), even though the screen was clearly showing the washed out/shimmering blacks.

I got mine at around 4:30pm Friday (about an hour after they got them), so we probably got them from the same batch.

If they still refuse to exchange it i'll probably try to contest it with American Express or something.

Kinda makes me wish i had gone with the 8gb. Maybe in a few days they'll change their stance.

Got mine from apple fifth ave. in manhattan on sept 14th (at 3am yeah 24 hour store.)

serial 9C7373Dxxxx
model Ma627LL
version 3A100a

only the slightet problem, I dont really notice anything wrong unless its incredibly dark and even then tilting it slightly fixes it.

Just wanted to add to the data.

soon

within the next 15 minutes I will have a page up that lets you put all this in and view it a bit more laid out...

I will post the link soon

Look at this handy tool I found - http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

Try it and post your results, at least for the quick gamma test (do the leftmost colors show up?), the gradient test, and the contrast test so we can see what the different screens are like.

Can't believe my first post from the touch is in a thread complaining about this insane screen. I am suppose to have a good screen if it solely depends on the version of the unit but after assess my screen with the tests you provided I found that the left side of the gamma bars weren't showing up and yet the green bar and the one right below it were showing about 4-7 bars leftward than the others.

Thanks for the tests. Now people will have a standard as to judge how their screens perform. These tests probably need to be incorporated into the screen-report site the very nice volunteer is seting up. LOL

(on a more serious note than some recent posts) I think that this is a GREAT place to start. We can still try to include model and purchas number, although as cavemonkey50 noted, this could just be an issue of restoring.

Using Mtirv's link http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ we could (Just some ideas, I'm not advocating all of them) figure out how bad this is and actually document a range of problems, then write letters to Apple/Steve, start a petition, write to some of the reviewers... by and large, start a movement making them fix it. I don't (much) doubt that they will eventually, but wouldn't it be cool if this forum in the here and now was the place the movement started.

I don't know if we necessarily need to start a whole petition. The reviews coming out now from "trusted" sources like PCWorld are mentioning the negative screen problem. That's bad press for Apple. Apple will address this issue before it gets out of hand.

Report Your Ipod Touch Issue

ALL:

I have just set up a db and a small page to report on your ipod touch issues.

Please visit
http://www.thoughtsgonecrazy.net/screen_report.php

PLEASE BE PATIENT AS I WORK ON THIS PAGE. to view the reports go to:

http://www.thoughtsgonecrazy.net/touch_report.php

please realize I am working on this right now and I know it looks like crap for hte time being, but in the next 10 minutes or so it will start to look alot better, i swear

also, if someone could start a new thread about this, i hope it will help.

Im going to add some graphs so we can see whats really going on , also, im going to add a helpful links section so you can test your ipod out

please dont refresh the page a ton because the hosts mysql server has sucked this month, but it works I swear

Cheers,
Arisian

Ok, I've started a new thread with a detailed explaination of what we are doing (with credit given when due, If I've forgotten people, please tell me).

http://www.thoughtsgonecrazy.net/touch_report.php

Arisian, if you could get a placeholder post in their so you can personally update information about your site, that would probably be a good idea as well.

For everyone who still wants to post data on macrumors.com (what a great site!), this is still the thread to do it on.

Once again, well done folks!!!

guys I have a question: while playing videos, the top and bottom black bars of my screen are shown clearly negative black. is that also due to the whole issue as well? it is just too hard for a consumer to notice in moving pictures.

thanks in advance for clearing this up for me!
