Didn't ask, but you can be sure it's less than the £20/mth saving plus the £389 (Sim-free price) of the free N95.
so you getting an iPod touch? or 8gb of micro SD cards?

Be interesting to see if Nokia and Motorola figure out a way to do it themselves too...It's blatent profiteering.
Just went for an iPod Classic instead. The sad thing is that I really like the iPhone, I really do. I'm just not prepared to pay the extortionate price demanded by Apple and O2. This whole business of forcing operators to compete with each other for the exclusive rights to the iPhone does nothing but line Apple's pockets and force higher and less attractive tariffs on customers who want an iPhone. It's blatent profiteering.
our plans seem to be roughly the same, actually, in my opinion, your plans seem better (given the conversion of currency).

I bought an iPhone on iDay, stood in line and paid full price, and enjoyed doing it.
If you want the phone you have to pay for it. Apple and the carriers don't owe you jack.
While it's nice to get a phone for free (and you can just not an iPhone) you cannot expect the companies involved not to make money.
Petitions are great and i agree in principle that you want to make a stand, but really the only way to do that is to not buy one at all.
i'm happy to pay the priced asked for the phone. i'd be happy to pay your tarriff (where you will either have unlimited off peak calls or 5000 mins). but we don't have that tariff.
My bill tops $350 a month. The unlimited data is nice but the minutes on even the top plan is woefully inadequate.
as i have said we aren't even offered anything in the way of off peak minutes let alone your minimum 5000. so i suggest to you that you are better off than us.
admittedly i did it in a rush at work and just wanted it to go up...
I would appreciate any suggestions you guys have that will draw more support![]()
Okay if i am that much better off ill pay your bill and you can have mine.
Even so, i agree that they should have given you better plans than they did, but i don't think (although i hope for you) that a petition will do much.
The only thing they understand is missed sales.
That being said, good luck and i hope it works out for you all.
For real. Shame on those bastards running a business trying to make money.
SHAME ON THEM!
I was offered a Nokia N95 for free with a 18 month contract with 200 minutes and unlimited text messages for £15 per month.
With deals like that, how could you ever want to stump up £270 + £35 per month for a lesser tariff? You'd have to really, really want an iPhone
From what I gathered, your incoming calls are free? Is that correct? Just wondering, want to get an idea of your tariffs compared to what we have in the colonies...I mean states.
you actually get charged for receiving calls? I find that unbelievable!
and I thought us brits got ripped off, what are the charges?
yes but we pay a higher rate for a calling a mobile whereas there calling a mobile is the same as calling a landline. so here the person calling the mobile picks up the extra cost and there the person receiving the call on a mobile picks up the extra cost.
i'm sorry for laughing but can you please explain that again, i have no idea what that means.
I have a strong feeling that these so called exclusivity deals that apple is creating will not last (probably 8 months))
imagine you are sitting at home. you pick up your home phone. if you call your mother at home, it will probably cost you about 3 p a minute. if you call your mate who is on the train it will probably cost you considerably more. that's why all mobile numbers begin with 07...so that you know you are making a call which is more expensive that ringing a local landline.
whereas in other countries such as the US, it does not cost the person making the call considerably more to call a mobile than a local landline. but the actual phone call is costlier to the phone company to place. someone has to pick up that cost and it is the person receiving the call on their mobile.
we have the same principle when we are abroad. although someone calling our mobiles knows they are calling a mobile because of the 07 number, they have no idea whether we are abroad or not. so in this case the person receiving the call pays the premium.
I want the Iphone more then the next guy and I’m willing to cough out the £269 without blinking an eye. What im not prepared to do is being tied down to O2 for 18 months with a crap tariff. I think we all need to remember that this is apple we are talking about here, a lot can happen within 18 months with probably new iphones version 2 and 3 coming out. Sad thing is most of you will still be on that crap contract and feel resentment towards O2 for such a long time especially for a phone you paid for.
What’s the way forward then? Well for me its gonna be buy the phone and somehow get it unlocked (The process will get easier and easier as the iphone is released in more countries, its been less then 3 months and see how much they have achieved already!!!). The next step will be to get yourself a sim only deal (have u seen the amazing deals most networks offer these days!!!) Orange has a £30 a month for 900 minutes and unlimited texts plan on their website and guess how long the minimum contract lasts????? 'One month'. I think the trick is too stop getting phones for free cos thats how they tie you into the contract for 18 months or more, but if you get a sim only deal then there is no obligation except for your calls.
Im on 3 at the moment and have been for the last 3 years and every year i get a free upgrade subject to another 12 month contract, I now have tons of Nokia phones which I don’t really need (hence the reason I’ll just invest a sim only option and get an iphone). The novelty of a new phone for me only lasts a few weeks but the contract lasts 12 to 18 months so i suggest people think about it before they rush out and tie themselves to O2.
I have a strong feeling that these so called exclusivity deals that apple is creating will not last (probably 8 months), sooner or later Mr Jobs will realise that apple stands to make more money by making the iphone available to all. When that happens the tariffs will go crazy due to every network trying to offer the best data and call plans which is what is happening right now with all the other non iphone phones on the market. The problem then will be that a lot of you will be still stuck on your 18 month crappy contract which trust me will be a nightmare to get out off.
I will be buying the iphone but I sure as hell wont be taking out a new contract with O2 for 18 months for a phone that is not subsidised.![]()
