Does it support ‘Hey Siri’?

Can you say hey Siri unlock the front door?

Yes, we have the Bolt from Level and it works with HomeKit so you can use Siri to lock and unlock the front door. I often use it with CarPlay when I pull into our neighborhood.

Right...and doing an "Updated: Now available online" wouldn't cover it?
Clearly not considering the amount of discussion this second article generated.

Updated to 16.1 and not seeing an option to share this key? Anyone try this yet?

I noticed the same. I’ve seen conflicting reports, some say that HomeKeys are not part of key sharing and that for now you have to invite someone into your home to share the key. I can confirm that sharing the home does give the HomeKey to that person, and that was the case prior to 16.1. But I’d love to be able to share the HomeKey by itself without giving home access.

I’m eagerly awaiting some more information on this. Seems like a missed opportunity if HomeKeys can’t be shared.

Any bets that in 5 years the bean counters will decide they aren't making enough money by just selling the hardware, so they'll drop the bomb of a monthly subscription service to utilize the phone integration feature?

Chamberlain did worse with their garage door HomeKit bridge. The announced they were going to discontinue it and gave no assurance they would support the sold units out in the field.

OT but since you seem to know

Chamberlain did worse with their garage door HomeKit bridge. The announced they were going to discontinue it and gave no assurance they would support the sold units out in the field.

I got a MyQ a couple months ago. When I bought it the description made it sound that the bridge is now included. I had previously researched that for HomeKit support I need the bridge, but just couldn't find it anywhere. I was unable to connect my MyQ to HomeKit, so I assume said bridge is still required...but I can't seem to find *anything* helpful about it anywhere, including Chamberlain's own website (which still says you need the bridge, which isn't sold anywhere)

Well, that concerns me, if true - so exactly how do you claim to know that? The Level website and Apple's product page for this lock refers to it as 'certified BHMA AAA' which addresses the physical security of the lock as well as resistance to picking, as I understand it

Unfortunately that part out picking resistance is not correct. BHMA / ANSI ratings only refer to physical security like blunt force, not lock picking.

AAA means it's strong and nice quality build. However it could be dead easy to pick too or super hard, we really have no idea from just looking at the BHMA rating.

Would be great if standards organizations did include this aspect in the future though.

Because you always wanted one more thing in your life dependent on having your phone readily available and charged at just this minute. Of course you can carry the key for backup, but that makes the whole point of this lock irrelevant.
No you wouldn't have to find the physical key out of your keys if it worked properly, but would still have the backup if something went wrong.

How often do you upgrade iOS on your drive home ?

In the past 10 years I have lost my phone 1 time. I have forgotten my keys about 25 times / had my jacket taken / stole.

As I remember it after iPhone turnes off you have 24 hours to open via NFC ( car/ house.
And I will bet one of your neighbors have a charger :)

But if you have this lock, you can basically open it with a paper clip… it is the most simple key :(
Then that's dumb. If a zero skill person can pick it, then what's the point? The other thing about that photo is, can you physically unlock it the usual way from inside? If so, break glass, unlock, steal the smallest valuables, and flee before anyone arrives

Here's something to consider before you buy a Level - their dev efforts, post release leave a lot to desired.

Me, this is the tipping point. I have an unlogged unlocking of the lock (it felt like it wasn't locked when we came home last night). (it didn't log us unlocking the lock when we returned home around 9:10 as the lock was already unlocked).

Just too damn dangerous leaving this installed. Putting a regular Schlage lock back in.
